Cronkite says Karl Rove was behind bin Laden tape
I saw and heard him last night on Larry King's show. Has this been discussed and cussed ;-) already?

I just took a quick peek (Sh, don't tell anybody) at the Drudge Report and saw this there. I thought it rather odd also, but then I remembered seeing pictures of Walter on a Kennedy boat once and figured he's a good Dem! I think Walter is having difficulty getting his thoughts together. He seemed to hesitate a lot before he could get his words out. Guess he's an elderly man now and it's showing. But he's still a great reporter. Will there ever be another like him? I'm waiting.

CRONKITE: KARL ROVE BEHIND BIN LADEN TAPE?
Sat Oct 30 2004 16:31:19 ET

Former CBSNEWS anchorman Walter Cronkite believes Bush adviser Karl Rove is possibly behind the new Bin Laden tape.

Cronkite made the startling comments late Friday during an interview on CNN.

Somewhat smiling, Cronkite said he is "inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing."

Interviewer Larry King did not ask Cronkite to elaborate on the provocative election eve observation.

1. Sad.
While I would not put it past Rove if he could do it, I don't believe that Rove is that good. I don't think he is in league with Osama. OBL made that tape for his own reasons - whatever those may be.

7. At first I thought * and Musharref were in cahoots. But now I'm wondering
if Musharref and/or the Saudis (whichever is providing the protection for OBL did it on their own to insure a * loss.

Yes, indeedy. My :tinfoilhat: is working overtime. :7

2. f***ng Larry King would not know a news idea ...
...or possible story, or avenue to pursue, if it came up and bit him on the ass.

4. Perhaps it is tongue in cheek, but Walter wasn't appearing
that way to me. He said that Rove was a very "clever" person. And he wasn't saying it in a complimentary way.

5. The beauty of it is that idiots who read Sludge may
..believe it. And we know who THEY vote for.

When you weigh three thousand dead, and a huge investment in hatred of all them Ay-rabs, to "learn" from Sludge that Osama and Rove are connected, you may as well jus' drink that bottle of Jack for breakfast on election day, pass out, and skip voting....

Yeeeeeeee haw: Not a foreign policy.

6. Yep, it was a joke.
I didn't even see it, and just from reading the transcript that seems obvious to me.

10. However , it is no a joke.
First of all, yes, I believe Bin Laden is still a CIA asset, as he was during the Afghanistan war against the Soviet Union when we were arming and training them. That is why they inexplicably let him leave Tora Bora, and why soon afterward he became irrelevant to our current president in the so-called "War On Terror." Too many tapes just seem to show up at the most convenient times for this president.
Just think about it. How many people have predicted that this would happen, that there would be some news concerning Bin Laden for the October Surprise. And guess what, all those people were right. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Shortly after 911, they just happened to find a tape when they were search for Bin Laden. It just happened to be lying around, and low and behold, it contained incriminating evidence linking Bin Laden and Al Queda to 911. Well, that took care of that. We no longer needed any evidence from our government to actually prove it was Al Queda. Colin Powell said they would present this evidence to the American people, but that never happened. All we have are tapes.

And now we have a new tape with Bin Laden confessing to the deed. Well that is also very convenient, considering the new inquiries that have been filed in New York by some 911 family's. They don't believe this administrations explanations nor the results of the 911 panels investigation. The questions they wanted answered were never even addressed. They have suspicions about the complicity of our own government. But, of course, now we have a full confession.

Now Bin Laden is in Pakistan, looking pretty spry I might add. Pakistan, a country whose ISI (Military Police) has very close ties to the CIA and openly has supported Bin Laden and other terrorists.

I will post links to some articles below that explain more about these relationship. For those of you who think this implausible, I suggest you do a little more research.

8. I think he misspoke
I saw that show as it first ran on CNN. Walter, I suspect, is getting a bit slow in assembling his thoughts. (He *is*, after all, 88 years old and God bless him!)

I think he meant to say that some may accuse Rove of having done it because he's so clever ........ etc. I remarked to my wife (Sparkly on this board) that he can't have meant that as he worded it.

But if one reads an exact transcript, that is, indeed, what he said.

12. My own guess
is that Rove got hold of the tape before Al Jazeera did and they sent it to them.

The timing did stink. Hopefully though it will show the people what a real failure Bush is - he failed to deliver on his promise to "smoke him out" and find him "dead or alive".

13. This is my feeling
glad to see I'm not the only one. They couldn't catch him so they held on to a tape. This was their October surprise. They've run on fear since 9/11. Why stop now.
