"AUSTIN Texans turned out in record numbers for the two-week early voting period, Secretary of State Geoff Connor announced Saturday.

More than 2.4 (two-point-four) million Texans cast ballots in the state's 15 (fifteen) largest counties, representing 30 (thirty) percent of those counties' registered voters. Early voting for Tuesday's election began Oct. 18th and ended Friday.

This year's early vote totals represent a 58 (fifty-eight) percent increase over the 2000 election when former Texas Gov. George W. Bush, a Republican, won his first race for the presidency."

5. Good news!
Wish it had a breakdown by party, though. Still, the more people vote, the better Democrats do!

6. My Stepson and His Partner in Dallas...
says Bush is despised in Texas for taking a far right turn. There is a strong movement in Texas to get rid of the Bush.

11. That would really put the icing on the election cake!!!
My heart broke for Al Gore when he lost Tennessee. I would give anything to see Shrub lose Texas. That would be true justice.

10. Yes!
If the ache in my feet is indicative of how hard we have worked this election, we should be blue. If for effort alone!

Those two areas are are highest Dem ones also. This is great news indeed. Like I said earlier, Enron and Delay have miffed a lot of folks here and record numbers (my prediction) Republicans will vote for Kerry.

14. Dallas county EV: 322,738
That's about a 26% total voter turnout of our 1.2 million registered voters.

Now... here's the interesting part, I've been predicting a 65% total voter turnout. BUT, I have repeatedly heard that 30% of all voters who vote, vote early. NOW, based on that assumption, IF TRUE, we're looking at a whopping 89% voter turnout.

Whooooo... I'm not even sure *I* believe that.

15. wow. Is it true that 700,000 switched voters
could turn the tide in TX?

BTW, it's great to scroll through this thread and see all the Texans with their "I voted" avatars. :)
