What's the latest on the House races
Here's what I know:

We have a good shot at a seat in Arizona and a couple of seats in Colorado.

We might knock off Simmons or Shays in Connecticut, and Burns in Georgia.

Phil Crane is suprisingly vulnerable.

Ken Lucas's seat is still up for grabs.

We have a chance at Bereuter's seat.

Heather Wilson might get knocked off.

Schwartz vs. Brown is neck and neck.

I'm worried about Stephanie Herseth.

In addition to Frost vs. Sessions, I know Sandlin, Stenholm and Lampson are all in serious trouble. :scared:

2. How bad is the damage in Texas?
How many seats will DeLay's redistricting cost us in the end?

3. Delay's redistricting
Will net the Republicans 3-4 seats. Doggett and Edwards survive, perhaps Frost, too.

4. Well ...

We have/had a good shot at picking up a House seat in OK's CD1, but the DCCC is ignoring the race. It's not considered a top priority, which is pretty stupid, imo. Doug Dodd, the Democratic challenger, has run a good race and is/was in an excellent position to surge, but he has almost no financial backing.

So, there's probably a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, I'm not in that district and so can't cast my vote for him.

5. I think we'll win in the OK 1st
I don't live there either, but I wish the party would put some money there.

I also wish the Dems had put up a candidate in the 4th. I know we kept electing J.C. Watts here, but with Norman in the district and with all the energy the local dems seem to have, I can't help but think we'd've had a shot at beating Cole. :evilfrown:

8. Watts was just unfair ...

No way he doesn't win in Norman.

I guess the real reason the DCCC ignores Oklahoma is how poorly organized our official party machinery is. I mean, it's horrible. We don't even try. Even Dodd was a last minute challenger, and look what's happening with him. It's amazing and shows a little something about what can be done in places like this if there is enough hard work put behind it. Almost every significant challenge this year is coming from grassroots organizations and individuals doing their best to get these idiots out of our congressional delegation.

10. Quick illustrative story re: watts
I worked with a guy several years ago who was one of the coolest guys I've ever known. :hippie: He was a musical genius, easy-going and nice as could be, and a committed liberal (he named his son Che).

He told me once that he was originally registered as a republican, but hadn't voted for a republican since he was young and foolish and voted for Nixon in his first election. Then he paused and said, "well, none except J.C."

Me: Why the hell would you ever vote for J.C.?
Him: Well, he won two orange bowls. It's the least I could do.

Yeah, J.C. was pretty unfair, all right. :puke:

And I share a lot of the sentiments about the party. We've got the numbers and we've got a popular governor from our party, but we can't find a way to parlay that to races around the state?

7. MELISSA BEAN
Met her twice at the JDRF Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk and another legislative gathering. Phil Crane on the other hand is a "benchwarmer" that could lose if we can get some canvassing for her in the NW suburban district of greater chicagoland. You should read some of Crane's latest bills which tend to always have the name "Crane" as a part of discussion. view for yourself

9. WA 8th...uh...well...

This was originally Republican Golden Girl Jennifer Dunn (a.k.a. "Congresswoman Dunnderhead")'s safe seat, but she decided to retire just at the time the district was moving from hard-conservative to swing (Gore won 49%-47% here in 2000).

The contest is between Democrat Dave Ross, a very popular local talk-show host who practically typifies "middle of the road," and Republican Dave Reichart, the King County Sheriff, whose main claim to fame is being "on watch" when the Green River Killer was apprehended (and who has not been shy about claiming credit for himself, to the extent of writing a book about it with the subtext that he was "the man who caught the Green River Killer" :eyes: ), and whose charismatic "good guy" demeanor masks a far-right agenda.

Up to a month or so ago, Ross was safely ahead by about a 10% margin. Then the Republican National Committee unleashed a series of attack ads the likes of which I've never seen before. The gist of these ads is a) that Ross, while broadcasting from a tour of Baghdad, described our occupation as "slipping into repression" (which means that he "blames America," has "insulted our troops," and "aided America's enemies") and b) that he once proposed the $100 billion missile defense system (which is spun as merely demanding a $100 billion cut in defense, with the implication that he wants to cut the security programs that would protect us from Big Bid Bin Laden).

These ads were the most shameless I have ever seen and, at the outset, seemed laughable. However, the RNC has been relentless in hammering the message home (there has only been one day in the past two weeks when we did not get a minimum of four direct mail RNC attack ads in our postbox). Apparently, the adage holds true that, if you throw enough garbage up against a wall, some of it will stick, and the latest polls show that Reichart has caught up with and passed Ross, with about a four-percent lead with eleven percent still undecided. It's not over yet, but the past month has given me no reason to doubt the gullibility of voters from my district.

:grr:

12. You should see these bullshit ads for Phil Crane here...
Pure drivel...saying that Melissa Bean supports the "radical" Nancy Pelosi (I'm surprised that they didn't use the words "San Francisco radical Nancy Pelosi") instead of "our" Dennis Hastert. They're almost sad to watch.

In that race, I see a tired, old right wing (I hesistate to talk about his alcoholic abuse problem) has been who has been in Congress way too long.
