1. Similar things have happened - look at maps from 1972, 1984
Now of course, when these were done blue=Republican. But these elections both show that it is possible for 'solid' red states to go blue and vice versa.

1972 Final Election Results

1984 Final Election Results

Your scenario is entirely plausable and depending on how many votes from new voters are are counted and how many suppressed votes are protected and counted, could actually come true on Wednesday.

3. Why does that top map say "McGovern (only won District of Columbia) when

our man won Massachusetts? The map shows Massachusetts in red.

As the old bumper sticker said "MASSACHUSETTS -- THE LONE STAR STATE"

I voted for McGovern and I was right!!!

12. Two Disturbing Questions about 1972 and 1984 Election Results
http://www.multied.com/elections/1972state.html

http://www.multied.com/elections/1972.html

Two disturbing questions about these hideous fiascos.

What the HELL happened in 1972? I was too young to be paying attention, but WTF? If any election parallels 2004, it looks to me like 1972. You have an evil, obsessively secretive, criminal in the WH, he has been exposed as a criminal (Watergate had come out, but not fully unfolded) he has taken the nation deeper into a quagmire and there is a huge youth movement to expel him. So how the hell did Nixon take every state but MA?

And in 1984, OMG, Massachusetts - the uber-liberal bastion of Democratic strongholds - went Republican?!? And they went Republican for, of all people - Ronald "mourning in America" Ray-Gun? Explain that to me. And, yes, I know Mondale was pathetic, but he was not a dumb-ass, superstitious, dottering senile washed up actor hell bent on destroying the progress of the 20th century and squandering the wealth of the 21st century. So WTF?

Now my original point in posting those maps was to prove that IT COULD HAPPEN - IT HAS HAPPENED - A GENUINE LANDSLIDE. Kerry could take many or most of the so-called "solid red" states. It would not be unprecedented.

14. My take
In '72, the young hippies scared the old folks and I think the young hippies didn't vote. That's my take anyway. This year, since we were the young hippies, we're not scared and we welcome you to vote and I think you know it.

Reagan? I didn't like Reagan, but there was a noticeable economic difference between 1980 and 1984. I don't think he had anything to do with it, but still. They also put out the bear ad that year, and Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman VP. Probably more than that, but I didn't pay that much attention because I would never vote for a Republican anyway.

But there is no way every state will flip. Hate radio took care of that. ID, MT, WY, NE, OK, TX, AL, all those states, no way.

6. Actually, I disagree. I really don't want either party to have total
dominance! I would be happy to conceed 2 or 3 states to shrub, just to stop Dem overconfidence!

11. Not Me!!!
I want a complete, total, utter, irrefutable revocation of Bush and everything he stands for!!

I want the Pukes to be demoralized for at least the next twenty years, for the way they have fucked up this country in the past four years...

They deserve it. Maybe next time, they won't let the neo-con asshats take control of their party!!

Of course, this is my fantasy world, you are welcome to join me in it!!

I won't concede jack shit to these asshats, you give them an ich and they will take 3,000 miles!!

Goddam the freaking GAGG voters, anyway!! You know who they are, dont'cha??

G.A.G.G. = Guns, Abortion, Gays, God. You say those four things, and the GAGG voters froth at the mouth, and lose all ability to even think, they rush out to vote for the guy who SAYS he's a Christian, and wears it on his sleeve...the guy who would, if given a chance, open up concentration camps for the gay people...the guy who will take away a woman's right to choose (hey, why not, they want to take away ALL our rights to choose the fucking President...) and the guy who says he will not let those awful liberals take away their fucking guns!!

Jesus, I hate those frigging moran GAGG voters....

7. Okay, drop the mouse. Step away from the screen!
It's not your fault. You'll be okay, really!

Take some Tylenol PM and keep taking it until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning -- unless you've already voted. In that case, you can join us when the polls close Tuesday evening!

We care about you! :grouphug:

10. That sure is a pretty map you have there.
The blue goes really well with the shape of the map.

Very soothing.

2. Your map is interesting....

interesting indeed.

According to your map, it seems that most of the states that border on Canada will likely go democratic.

Are we a bad influence??? }(

16. Migration Northward Otherwise
I suspect that if, by some demonic act, Bush DOES win, you'll be seeing a whole bunch of people (maybe even whole states) attempting to join you in the Great White North. We're two hours from Vancouver here in Seattle, and if Bush does somehow pull this damn thing off, we WILL have our bags packed and be across the border at Blaine as soon as possible thereafter.
