Any chance in peeling off an elector from Nebraska? |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 04:58 AM by fujiyama
The state sure isn't in play, but anyone have an idea how the state is district by district? The reason I ask is because the state has the potential to split its electors.
For example, in Maine, Kerry is way ahead in district 1, which is where the large population centers are (like Portland).
I checked the % for the last election and Bush did well in all districts (the closest being 55-40)...but I heard there was a competetive House race in one of the districts this time.
Could this make a difference?

While some states allow a split, the electors sent are pre-chosen by the winning party.
Every state has sets of electors for each candidate. If Bush takes NE, as he probably will, al the electors sent by NE are pre-chosen by the GOP.
For a split to occur, the elector themsleves would have to change from the vote they promised to make when selected -- It is reasonable to assume they picked people who would not switch.

2. I read that polls said no |

i can't remember who the pollster was, but I read about the results on www.electoral-vote.com. It said that district-by-district polls had been done in Maine and Nebraska, but that Kerry was leading in every Maine district and bush was leading in every Nebraska district.

I know the second district in Maine was very narrow last time. I think Gore won it by 2%.
Bush won all the districts of NE by huge margins last time and I doubt anything there has changed.
