GOTV report from OH
Hi DUrs,

Got into Cleveland mid-morning Saturday, took the red-eye from OR via PDX-SF and Chicago. After a longer than expected nap :boring: got into the Lakewood office about 2 and worked the phones until closing at 7. Between me and my sister we made about 400 calls. It's a little cumbersome because they use cell phones instead of computers, so you have to manuall dial all numbers. Lots of great responses including a union machinist who listed off all the family members he'd registered who were voting Kerry, about 8 in all!

A lot of folks are simply fed up with all the calls they get here, but they are still voting Kerry.

Today we'll be doing door-to-door canvassing after church lets out until dark. Tomorrow and Tuesday more of the same. The enthusiasm of the volunteers here is just tremendous. We got a real pump up when Paul Newman came by to rally the troops. What a guy!

- K

1. Keep up the good work!
Canvassing in Wisconsin yesterday and today. A mostly democratic area yesterday - lots of nice people with big smiles. They were glad to see people showing the colors.

5. not off topic - very interesting. Gropenator? Illegal right now in US? I
can see this admin breaking the law and using this tech for their own benefit, easily. But I haven't heard of any GOTV teams complaining of their cells being rendered unuseable. (Hope that isn't happening) The creepier thing in that article is that the technology allows users to covertly use target cell phones as bugs! Thanks for the interesting link!

"Last year, during a visit to Israel by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Netline signed an agreement with Santa Cruz's Life Safety Systems to provide specialized terrorism-response equipment to U.S. federal, state and local agencies, government departments and military clients. "Cooperation between the two companies will increase system's availability while significantly shortening delivery response times to US distributors and governmental end-users who need these solutions deployed on short notice," said Te'eni.

While it's illegal in the U.S. and in Israel for the jammers to be used by private parties, Netline's Haim-Cayzer thinks it's only a matter of time before Americans become as fed up with distracting cell phone noise as the Mexican priests have.

"Things are changing. France just passed a law allowing the use of cellular jammers in theaters and concert halls. We get calls in Israel all the time from theaters like Habimah and Hechal Hatarbut as well as from synagogues. And we even get strange phone calls from parents who want our device to make sure that when their teenager is up in his room, he's studying instead of talking on his cell phone," she said.

"Unfortunately, for us, the same laws apply in Israel as in the U.S. -- it's illegal for the private market. I guess it's a matter of privacy. The FCC doesn't want any person to be able to jam the cell phone of somebody else."
