The Norwich Bulletin in CT is an influential small paper with a good reputation (at least I think so)... they are endorsing Democratic challenger Jim Sullivan over incumbent Rob Simmons (R-ex CIA) This is a big race nationally, as Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean & Nancy Pelosi have been in town to support Sullivan, while John McCain was in town to support Simmons.
The latest poll has Sullivan down only 44-41 despite being outspent nearly 5-1 and being subject to vicious & dishonest negative attacks from Simmons, including one racist flyer that was distributed.
From the Bulletin (via Sullivan email):
"Sullivan is a part of his community in a way that his opponent can never be. Sullivan's qualifying experience is his life experience." They noted that Mr. Simmons creates "smoke and mirrors" about his record, engaging in "bait and switch" tactics. They note that in the debates, Jim has been "forcefully presenting a different vision of the future, one arguably more in tune than Simmons' with the philosophical outlook of 2d District voters."
