Stop freaking out about the spin! They can't tell us what to think!

There are days when I come to DU and get completely frustrated. I know this is a place to unwind, and I know that for the most part, we are all among friends, so it's the safest place to unload our concerns. That's fine, and I'm not knocking you guys at all. You're my friends, and I love ya. But listen to me for a sec... ya gotta stop freaking out about the spin.

1. We get a great deal of pleasure posting the Freeper Freak Out posts. Don't you think they do the same? Let's NOT give them a headline that screams "OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING" with which to post on their forum, delighting in our lack of confidence.

2. The polls were wrong in 2000, and they're wrong now. What is the trend? The trend is Kerry has MO, and he's not losing it. The trend is Bush can't break 50, and for the incumbant, this spells disaster.

3. Who won the debates? Honestly? How many spin doctors told us, "hands down, it's Bush." What did we KNOW? We knew Kerry and Edwards mopped the floor with BushCo, and in spite of the blatant attempt to brainwash America into believing differently, America knew who won. It's the same with the spin: "OBL tape is good for Bush" is a spin for "Oh shit, this is bad for us." "Bush is confident of a big win" is a spin for "Oh shit, we need to sound confident."

4. If you were EVER a part of the evangelical movement, here is a phrase that you will recognize: "Name it and claim it." Why do you think Laura is redecorating the Lincoln Bedroom? Name it and claim it. Why do you think the right is acting confident in the face of such a gloomy week for Bush? Name it and claim it. They actually believe that if they name it in the name of God, it will come to pass. They seem to forget the part about FREE WILL that gives us the right to claim Kerry as our president.

Please for the LOVE OF GOD... remember what makes you a Democrat or an Independant, or even a good little Republican with a conscience: you learned how to THINK FOR YOURSELF, how to discern the truth, how to recognize the lies, and how to make America a good place to live.

Stop freaking out and relax. Trends, mobilization, ire with the state of America... they're all on our side.

4. Totally agree,

I've been in countless arguements over the last week with repukes. They are totally baffled when I say Kerry is going to win. They do they're best to try to break me, to no avail. They're scared, and they want me to be worried so that they will feel better.(They know that I have been following the election very closely- most of them are un-informed) They will not get that comfort from me.
