Any Oklahomans here? How is Carson's chances looking? |

Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 03:55 PM by dems4america
I really like him from what I have saw, however, in the last poll I saw he was down by like 9. Is he done or does he have a chance?
Thanks

This has been the nastiest campaign I have ever seen bar none. It has been reported that there are about 100 television ads per day running here just for this race (of course I've only seen a single presidential ad). I've gotten at least one pre-recorded phone call per day regarding this Senate race - and one day I got two calls wthin an hour on Friday.
There are alot of people that think that Coburn is a kook. There is a third party candidate who is reported to have doubled her small level of support because so many are so put out with this campaign.
I would say that I have seen more Coburn than Carson yard signs in south predominately republican Tulsa. Most of them are Bush/Cheney/Coburn signs that began appearing after Cheney made an appearance. But I have seen many homes that have Coburn signs - but not Bush signs. I've even seen one yard that had a Kerry sign and a Coburn sign. Go figure.
I think Kerry will do better than expected here - but he will not take the state. Coburn has aligned himself with Bush and has prtrayed Carson as being more liberal than Kennedy - yada, yada, yada. But Carson is well liked by many and he has really made an effort to appeal to the conservatives here.
I really think this will be a close race. But I could be wrong - I don't really have a feel for how the rural areas of the state will go. And I live in Tulsa which is where many of Coburns strongest support comes from.
I do know that this particular race cannot end wsoon enough. And if the fundiesin this state elect Coburn then they deserve everything that they get - or not, as the case may be.

3. Haven't Heard Much, But....Carson May Have a Slight Edge |
|
I have a lot of trouble finding out polling data on statewide races around here. (Yes, I know have a Texas flag avatar, but, although I'm a native Texan, I live in OK) But, the last I heard, Carson was weathering the negative superstorm that the Repugs have been waging, and has a 1 point edge in the polls. I heard this on Friday evening.
Carson has been keeping up the pressure, despite the hateful RW ads that the freepers have been putting on TV. They've had photo caricatures of Carson dancing on the screen alongside similar photos of Sens. Clinton and Kennedy. Another ad showed Kerry holding Carson's puppet strings as his caricature danced. The ads were stressing how Carson's election would bring the Democrats back in control of the Senate.
Carson has been pretty restrained with his reply ads. He even put on one ad where he gently acknowledged the rough politics in Oklahoma, and promised that he would not put on any more negative ads. Of course, that didn't stop him from repeating his attack ads from earlier this month.
Other Carson ads bring up his various OK newspaper endorsements (except form the neanderthal Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City), of course).
I'm hoping the turnout will give Carson a narrow win.

Please describe. I'm always interested in comparing what different people consider attack ads.
I swear, I don't know whether Coburn or DeMint is a bigger idiot. The very idea that these would be 2 of only 100 people in our Senate is frightening.
