What will you do if Kerry loses?
I will probably be depressed to point of tears and make plans to move to Canada or Europe. Also drink a little to lessen the pain.

How about you guys?

55. Calgary? That's the most right-wing city in Canada.
That's Tory country there. They supported the Conservatives in the last Canadian election. Wouldn't you be better off moving to Toronto or Vancouver?

If I move to Canada, I would like to live in a place where the NDP or Liberals have a stronghold.

97. I am in Calgary.
and were not all that bad.

Canadian Conservatism, is about the same as conservative democrat in the US. Although I do think the "New Conservatives" is a little too right wing, I think they will scare off lots of Conservatives, and never get any "true" power.

The Calgary Job market is just about the best in Canada. There is some right wing elements, but it isnt anything like living in America.

16. Let's not get overconfident, people.
This thing could go either way. Plus, let's not forget how dirty and underhanded the Bushites are. Things could get nasty. The only factor that I could think of that will help Kerry is the student voters (18-24). They have cell phones and are polled. Most of them appear to be leaning towards Kerry. Let's hope they will help. Still all of us better watch what the Bushites do.

42. The ONLY factor?
Relax. Bush is losing ground all over the place. Seniors. Muslim-and Arab-Americans. Cuban-Americans. Everyone who's lost job. True conservatives. Some of the military and more of the veterans.

In addition, there are many new voters who are energized because they're fed up with Bush. Young voters, who could be affected by a draft, are usually underrepresented in elections -- not this year.

We don't know anything for sure, but it looks good for Kerry.

I want to see thousands of people out on the streets marching in the cities. I want to see people contact their members of Congress and Senate. I want to see a nationwide rage. I want to see the same rage that the Serbs had when Slobodan Milosevic tried to steal the election in Serbia in 2000. Only then we will have real change.

I believe that there is a very real possibility that Glenda "I wanna be the next Katherine Harris" will do something to trigger violence. Specifically, I can see her, if Kerry wins by a slim margin, announcing that she has arbitrarily and unilaterally thrown out enough "bad votes" to make Bush the winner. Then I say let the bricks fly!

In 1980 when Reagan beat Carter, it took me two years. When Dukakis lost to Bush, I withdrew for a year or so. After Gore, two years plus.

F911 is the first time my partner or I had ever seen the eggs being thrown at the inaugural limousine. We had no idea how nasty the whole thing was because we both REFUSED to watch.

I'd remind myself that Bush is now stuck with the economic mess and the Iraq mess (both of his own making - so it is fitting they should be his). If Kerry wins then he owns Iraq and the deficit.

And I'd try to convince myself that it can't get any worse than this (what more damage can Bush do . . .).

BTW, some of the most powerful behind-the-scenes players are Rehnquist and C. Boyden Gray. Let's make sure they don't slip away. Because, if they do, they will simply find another Puppet President to front their agenda (after trying to destroy Kerry as they tried to destroy Clinton).

ESPECIALLY.... C. Boyden Gray.

32. right now I try not to consider the possibility
I guess life will go on. I'm tired. Been doing this campaign thing since 1968 in one form or another. Watched Tricky Dick get in twice. Watched Ronnie Raygun get in twice. Watched Poppy get elected. Saw the catastrophies that resulted from all of them, and wondered if people will ever, ever learn.

I sure hope so. I'm realistic enough to know that when Kerry gets in, things will not magically change right away. There is a lot of damage done, and it will take three years, at least, to begin to make a dent in the mess.

Should Bush get in again, I think I'm going to begin concentrating on me. Sounds selfish, but I've been fighting too long, and I'm tired. There seem to be a lot of bright, energetic folks younger than I am, and I think I will probably pass the torch on.

Of course, I said that after last election too! And here I am, still swinging away.

but if he did and somehow managed to stay in, we will move for sure.

Living in eastern TN has been hard because of people we know. Their values are completely different than ours and has proven problematic. We've been discussing it off and on for a month or so now.

I told my hubby that if * cheats, I definitely want to move. We have a friend near Chicago that we're driving up to see next weekend and so far it looks to be the place we might consider. He's a truck driver so where we live won't matter as far as making a living.

I will work harder. I will volunteer more. I will stay focused. If Kerry loses, which is unlikely, then Bush will be the last Republican president for decades.

I'm voting for Kerry because I think he'll do a better job. If Bush wins, it will do for the Republicans what the civil rights movement did for the Democrats.

But if he does, it depends on the method.

If stolen - see if any unrest happens; if none, move to another country before it's too late

If not stolen - I've prepared myself for this since I might crash otherwise, but I will be commiserating with everyone else at DU. I will write to certain Democrats and the DNC to make sure they put up as fierce an opposition as they can!

on 2006 Congressional Campaigns.

If Bush manages to win this again, I have every confidence that before the end of the second term, he will do something, be caught at something that is impeachable, and so impeachable that even Republican Congressmen will not dare to not go forward with the impeacment, or if they do, their inaction will result in such hostility that they will lose many seats in the midterm elections. Enough from Democrats to revisit the impeachment.

Bush has done so many things wrong, but most of them have been done in such a way that it is difficult to directly prove his incompetance. But no one can commit a crime without leaving something that proves their guilt behind and the divisions in the country will be far worse than they were while Clinton was in office. During a second term there the democrats will be far more vigilant looking for stuff, nad far more vigilant in obtaining valif proof. And there will be a numbe of people in the media with enough axes to grind that they will keep the stories alive.

I firmly beleive that a second Bush term will end with impeachment and removal from office if it occurs.

Nothing kills the nervous flutters like actually DOING SOMETHING.

Deal with the outcome, whatever it is, on November 3. Any celebrating or bemoaning before you know the result is wasted anyway. Until then, do what you can to help the local Democrats.

This isn't a McGovern-Nixon situation where the result is completely obvious before the election. There are ways you can help out right now.

Turn off the TV or radio or whatever, and get down to where the ACTION is.

The only way I see Kerry losing is if it is stolen from him in the courts, deja vu 2000. And if that happens, I fear that our country is in more than enough of a mess to hang the flag upside down.

I'm still hopeful it won't come to that, and am still convinced Kerry will wind up winning. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

85. We will be obligated to go into resistance.
I don't mean opposition. I mean resistance.

Legitimacy is like virginity. Once it is lost, it cannot be regained. The Bush administration was born illegitimate four years ago. Bush can never be the real president.

That Bush stole the election four years ago is bad enough. What is worse is that he has, since that time, continued to show nothing but contempt for American democratic institutions. He has used a national emergency to ram police-state enabling legislation through Congress; he led the country into an unnecessary war using pretexts that were false; moreover, Bush and his aides had to know they were false. Even the election as it is now is being tainted with the presence of Republican goon squads attempting to suppress votes for the opposition. That is in addition a a conscious, concerted effort to smear the opposition with a series of lies about Senator Kerry's stand on the issues and even his military record.

Meanwhile, the national news media, both print and broadcast, in the hands of Mr. Bush's campaign contributors, has failed to adequately inform the American public of Mr. Bush's record of lies, distortions and failures.

America today more closely resembles a banana republic than what can even be loosely termed a democratic state.

What we are being tasked to do as citizens this Tuesday is to prevent the dictator from consolidating his power. Failure is not an option. Should Bush, the illegitimate president, emerge victorious, the threat to democratic institutions will go unabated save for active and direct resistance.

Urge those of what would be considered draft age to avoid military service so long as Mr. Bush hangs on to power.

Support boycotts and divestment in businesses and corporations that support the junta and profit from wars predicated on lies.

Urge the international community to convene a tribunal for the purpose of apprehending, trying and incarcerating those responsible for war crimes in Iraq.

maybe I could start a liberal faction in the Republican party. The only way Democrats will become liberal again will be if Republicans criticize us for being too conservative.

Democrats supported ending slavery and segregation mainly because progressive Republicans pressured them to support it. Republicans pressure us to become neocons, and all Congressional Democrats do now is wave the white flag! :grr:

If Kerry does not win, I will:

Become a monthly donor to the ACLU and People for the American Way. It would be an investment, but it would be necessary under the circumstances. (I have donated to these groups before)

Contact the non-right-wing members of the Supreme Court (Ginsburg, Kennedy, Breyer, O'Connor, Stevens, Souter) and tell them how much we need them.

Contact all members of the House and Senate that aren't right-wing and ask them to block Bush's right-wing judicial nominees, even if they need to filibuster.

I am pessimistic sometimes, but I'm starting to get the feeling that I might not a need a Plan B after all! GO KERRY!!

146. Don't talk of leaving... I have a plan!
Hey, what's all this talk about leaving the country? If Bush and Cheney steal the election again, we can't just get up and leave! We have to get our country back from these crazy Republican freaks before it's totally ruined!

And sure, we could fight with guns, protests, and pretzel-mailing campaigns. But I have a different plan. Right now this country is so evenly split, almost exactly half right-wingnuts, and half normal sane people like us. All we need to do is completely outnumber them, and we'll win every single election.

So I say we all start f*cking like bunnies! Yup, that's right! Start right away, and crank out as many little liberal kids as you possibly can, and be sure to raise 'em right, and in 20 years or so, we'll have complete control of the country for decades!

I have a good feeling about this election though, and I think soon we'll see President Kerry in the White House! (But I think we should all start f*cking like bunnies anyway!!)

147. I will declare that...
democracy lives on (at least for now), and that the American people will get what they deserve.

And that's the gist of democracy... the people always get what they deserve.

So, I'm hoping we deserve a good President, for a change.
