I'm sure this has already been said by many people in many different ways on these forums: The one positive thing that has come out of this horrific campaign season is that more people are going to the polls and exercising their right to vote.
I was pissed I wasn't old enough to vote for Carter in 1980. I have voted in every presidential election since then. I never understood why voter turnout in this country was so low. I consider it my duty as a citizen. Just like serving on jury duty. So many people whine and complain when called, but it's a part of being a citizen of the United States of America!
I just read a thread about how people waited in line for four hours to early vote in Florida. And how there's evidence of large turnout all over the country! It gives me a little tingle. And it's the one thing I can be grateful to Bush for. By stealing the election in 2000 and screwing up so badly for the past 4 years, he has provided people with a real incentive to get out and VOTE! to uphold the democratic process! To cast off the cloaks of inertia and apathy and do something about his ineptitude.
Polls be damned. I have been predicting for months that Kerry will win large because people are pissed and taking action and standing up for truth and justice and the real American way, not what was co-opted by the right!
See you at the polls!
Peace, AL

1. Like you, I've voted ever since I was able to |

in my case, that was '72 (for McGovern, natch). I take voting seriously, and am glad to see that other Americans are taking it seriously now as well.
