Observation about showing ID to poll workers...from eastern Okla:
Since I moved back to OK in 1992 (from Tampa) and registering, and having voted in EVERY election but one (got stuck behind a line of thunderstorms up in MO & couldn't fly my way around them), not one person has ever asked me for identification...just my name. And it's SOP, I've watched. I do have to sign the dotted line on the greenbar sheet, but it has occurred to me, that probably -anybody- could go to the local precinct and claim to be virtually anybody whose name is known to them. Fortunately, (I think) there hasn't been any fraudulent voting (I think)...one time the lady had trouble spelling my name (same as userid) and I took out my registration card, she didn't really even want to look at it, just said "spell it for me one more time..."

1. Same here in Kansas.
I have never had to show my ID or my registration card. It kind of creeps me out so when the sheet is up I check my family at least to be certain nobody has voted for them.

2. Likewise in Ohio...
All I've ever had to do was sign my name. This year I'm taking a photo ID and a utility bill with my name and address, though. Oh, and a digital camera. Rumor has it that Republicans are planning to challenge every voter in Ohio for proof of identity this year, to slow things down. Somehow I can't imagine that at my polling place, where I've always been the only one there every time I came in to vote (last 4 years) ... but you never know....

3. They won't be able to do it
A Cuyahoga County Judge has limited the number of challengers allowed in any polling place to one. See linked thread.

4. no id asked in NC early voting from me
nor anyone else i was in line behind.

I had my voter registration card with me, several id's and a phone bill just in case.
I handed them my reg card without being asked for it, and the gentleman working the laptop thanked me, said it made life much easier for him. Asked my address, then spoke to the person next to him, gave her a ballot number/color, and i thought i was moving on. Then the woman sitting by the older gentleman spoke up and said 'wait a minute.... haven't you voted already??
No
She is staring at the laptop, and asks 'didn't you vote by absentee ballot?'
again, No...
questioned the absentee ballot thing again, and i replied i hadn't even asked for one.

She asked me to stand 'right there' and pointed over to the side, had to cross over the barrier rope to get where she pointed. Then she told the older guy to start the next person, she had to call for help. Called someone and told them the details. Brought back up my info on the laptop, and is reciting info over the phone to them. Then she mutters something to the older guy about 'did it print? check and see if it printed'...then told the person on the phone 'Forget this conversation ever happened.'

Told me to come back to the table, and proceeded to process my ballot. Made some comments about how she was 'not going to let this go, was going to get to the bottom of it' and that she had.

All the while through my mind i was planning on finding out who had gotten an absentee ballot in my name, and hunting them down, and extracting revenge....

couple of hairy minutes there. But i did get to vote. :)

5. Legally they can only ask first time voters for ID
I watched a program lastnight where they addressed this issue. Bring ID. But still, this is only a valid request for people who have newly registered, and have never voted before. It should be reported by calling 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
