Floridians and Ohioans, talk about your states
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 06:57 PM by Onlooker
Your two states seem to be the most pivotal in the nation, though of course there are many scenarios.

Who do you think will win in your state and why? Do you think one side is more motivated or organized than the other? Do you think the conservative areas of your state are as proBush as the progressive areas of your tate are proKerry?

1. Floridian here
My husb and I have been volunteering for the Kerry campaign (duh). We are seeing much more energy on our side, eg with sign waving. I'm a poll observer for early voting and we Dems always have an observer, repubs about half the time. We always have greeters outside the polls, repubs not as much.

I know the polls show us very close down here but I am very energized and hopeful. South Florida especially will carry us through. And Kerry supporters look a lot happier than the lemon-faced repubs. :*

2. Ohio
We are in the rustbelt (Youngstown area) and live in one of the two wealthier suburbs. We've only had one person to our door this election season who was actually looking for the previous owner (we've been here a year).

Maybe both sides have assumed we're all repubs(?) But we're clearly winning the bumper sticker/yard sign war and I wouldn't be suprised if this area went Kerry, along with the rest of Youngstown, which is traditionally staunch Dem.

We'll be out driving people around on Tuesday and the organization here does seem very energized. There wasn't much traffic in or around the local Repub headquarters this week that we noticed.

3. Ohio is a Rollercoaster
I travel a lot between Columbus and the Dayton area - which includes Wright-Patterson AFB and Yellow Springs - about as divergent as you can get. I love 'em both, in their own way, but currently hate all the Bush yard signs in the Wright-Patt vicinity. Going to Yellow Springs, by contrast, is like stepping into an oasis of sanity.

In the Columbus area, it's very divided from one street to the next. Some sections have almost only Bush signs, others have almost only Kerry. And it doesn't seem to be divided according to "nice houses" vs. "not-so-nice houses" either. (Though I do notice that the Kerry people tend to have nicer yards, with flowers and decorations, whereas the Bush people's yards are more sterile.) When I walk with my dogs, I mutter "Bad on you!" every time we pass a Bush sign, and "Good on you!" every time we pass a Kerry sign.

From all visible indications, I can only say the same thing the polls are telling us: it's split almost dead-center down the middle. All we need is a little nudge to tip things our way.

4. These are good insights
It sounds very much like this election could be so close that it will be decided in the courts.

5. I'm in FL
Odd thing I noticed while watching the NFL early game out of Orlando. I saw several Kerry commericials, and several each for Castor and Martinez (who are running to fill Graham's Senate seat) - but I didn't even see one Shrub ad. I wonder if he's given up?

I think that Kerry takes FL, btw.

8. Floridian in Tallahassee
Tallahassee is solidly blue, so I might get a skewed pictures, but our guys are out in FORCE here. The only canvassers who've ever come to my door have been Kerry supporters. People are pissed and Republicans are sort of in the background.

9. Gainesville Florida here...Bush has been here,
Edwards was here, Cheney was here, Michael Moore was here...I think people are going to vote...I just hope the college kids will actually remember to!!

On my street, there are zero Bush signs and 4 Kerry signs...but according to my prescinct leader, this prescinct is 70% democratic...

Really really wish Kerry could have stopped by...tons of crazy Bush enthusiasm around here this weekend...probably because of that, I am quite worried...

A few people I know are voting for Bush and I cant even figure out why...everyone who used to be civil has become polarized...

I want it over, but I am not so confident on the way its going to go...
