Trick or Treat? "She's pretty nice for a Kerry supporter!" |
|
Just handed out some more candy to the little looters that call themselves trick-or-treaters. One kid, 'bout 10 or 11 I'd say, pointed into my bucket and said, "Can I have that one?" I grabbed it up, along with a handful of this or that and said, "You sure can!"
As I turned to close the door I heard him say, "Hey Mom! She's pretty nice for a Kerry Supporter!" I turned back and smiled at his scowling mother.
Trick or Treat, indeed!

It's not a natural emotion for them and it seems to stun them momentarily. Good for a chuckle.

We live on a massively repuke streed (and town) and my daughter says (outloud in front of many parents) "Dad, we're not going to the house with the bush signs are we?" My reply "Nope, way to scary!"

7. One of the dads at yesterday's school carnival told me our house had |

the scariest Halloween decorations he's ever seen. He had to drop my daughter off there after she'd spent the night. He said when he told my daughter that, she didn't get it. I, of course, did. Our house has a Kerry/Edwards yard sign and Kerry posters in two front windows. The dad is a Republican. Staunch. We needled each other, good naturedly, throughout the carnival, whenever we saw each other (both of us were working it). To his credit, I will say he did come up to me afterwards and gave me probably the biggest hug he's ever given me, and said "look, no matter who wins on Tuesday, we're still friends." I was actually somewhat impressed by that, frankly.
BTW, I have a large jack-o-lantern out in front, tonight, with the word "VOTE" carved in it.

Comes down to two very good people with different opinions about the world. Sounds like he has a good heart though.

Good thing the kids don't believe their mother.

they teach in Saudi Arabia about how Jews eat Muslims.
I wouldn't be surprised.

9. we've been getting lots of pro-Kerry comments from kids and parents |
|
tonight. Our neighborhood is a nest of repubs, including idiots who put up Sportsmen for Bush signs.
Our signs (one is four feet wide, bright and shiny) are visible from inside our front hallway tonight, and we're getting lots of "Go Kerry" cheers from kids of all ages and some of the parents.
We get about 300 kids through here on Halloween - plenty of exposure for our gorgeous Kerry/Edwards signs!

13. My son didn't want to go to the ONE house with Bush signs... |
|
I told him to just go ahead, that it was ok. He comes back giggling and I asked him what he did. He said that when the fellow put a candy in his bag and said "Happy Halloween" he looked up at him and said, "Thank you. Happy Halloween to you, too." Then he told the guy he'll be happier on Tuesday when Kerry is our new president, though and the guy slammed his door.

I don't have kids..... which I guess is why I am so shocked that a child that age would even know what that means. I had my KE sign up at the walk and my special, hand-carved Kerry 04 pumpkin on the porch, and I didn't have any reaction either way. I did however, have a repub come up to me with * paraphernalia while I was carving the Kerry pumpkin this afternoon!

15. Everyone is scowling here |
|
Had three carved pumpkins. "Kerry Edwards 2004" a Joker skullface and a horrible dribbling ghoul face (B and C, respectively, in our minds). Didn't get much of any rise out of anyone. Didn't hand out any political information, but left up our eight bush bashing signs and our K/E signs (2). Got a lot of Repuke parents, apparently, shoving their kids onto our street looking for handouts and pissed off there is one K/E on the street of B/C sigh(n)s. Wife is mega pissed off and MAY give ARSENIC to kids parents next Halloween, my favorite holiday. I think the politics of the Repukes have made them very sour on the sweet trick or treat holiday just before their DOOMday.
