I swear, my Uncle in the Arkansas portion of Pennsylvania told me |
|
yesterday (he was out for a party honoring another relative) something to the effect of "Yeah, out in Ohio, they're dumb enough to vote for Bush".
Something to that effect.
Didn't bother me, I'm from the Pittsburgh PA area, and I told him "You're safe with me."
I wouldn't have expected that from him. Not sure which way he normally runs, but my brother is a chain-jerking freeper(-lite?).
I'm hoping that I heard him right. I let it go, because I believe in civility over conversion. We'll see Wednesday morning . . .

In Little Rock. I wasn't there and can't report on crowds, etc. It was in the convention center - rained today.

18. The old joke is PA is Philly & Pittsburgh |
|
with Arkansas in between.
Meaning, as I gathered it, two main urban areas, and then a TON of rural area.
I would think that a lot of states could claim that "geography".

4. I live in the Arkansas part of PA, |

Repubs are freaking out about the number of Kerry signs. My particular county has been hit real hard with plants closing down. And they are not better off than 4 yrs ago. I know that Philly & Pittsburgh are going to carry PA for Kerry, but I can't wait to read the actual numbers of how my county will vote, I think its going to surprise a lot of people.

7. I just saw in the Pgh Post Gazette that the mayor of Altoona |
|
endorsed Kerry last week! He was joined by the mayor of New Bethlehem in Clarion County. Both of these cities are in the "T" part of PA, so this was big! I also think that both of these mayors are Republicans!!!!

and you'd be shocked at how many people are for Kerry. There are some very conservative people here who care about their jobs and overtime pay. I don't know how Bush plans on winning any working class votes after some of the stunts he pulled. Guns, God, and gays can only go so far when your president is making you poorer.
A lot of the Kerry supporters and Democrats in general keep on the down low. Last time 1/3 of my county went to Gore and a little less than 1/2 are registered Democrats. You could never tell from looking around or hearing people talk. The freepers are very loud and obnoxious and constantly in your face.
The Catholics here (we own this town) are all up in my face tellin me that Kerry is pro-death and I'll go to hell if I vote for him. I ask them who they think they're kidding since everyone knows they support Arlen Specter, Tom Ridge, Arnold Swartzeneggar, Rudy Giuliani, and many other "pro-death" people. And when I tell them about Bush's bloodthirsty record, they get really mad. But when I ask them to go Google his girlfriend Robin Lowmam, blood shoots out of their nose, eyes, and ears, as their heads explode with primal rage. Then they slink away with their tail between their legs.

The (only?) other Somerset County DUer here, and I agree with everything he says.
The K/E signs all seem to have wings around here, although there are a surprising number of new signs since the weekend. (One main rural intersection has lost at least seven signs)

12. I grew up in PA, too, near Pittsburgh... |
|
...and I have to say that it's one contradictory state, and in many ways mirrors the country as a whole.
There are a few urban areas -- Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburgh, Allentown/Bethlehem, Scranton, Erie, etc. And tons and tons of rural farm country. The state has lots of union folk, lots of religious fundamentalist types, lots of progressives, and lots of conservatives. This is a state where those who DON'T split their ballots tend to be in the minority.
However, I do follow the news from my old home, and the situation for Mr Bush is not good. Unemployment is very high, union jobs are almost nonexistent anymore, and there aren't all that many who truly believe we're safer now than we were before 9/11. Moreover, even the religious people aren't fooled by Shrub's false piety -- they know a hypocrite then they see one.
Kerry will carry Pennsylvania.

Just outside of Philadelphia, was at the Kerry/Clinton rally that was 80,000 strong. Even the mansions in this area more Kerry signs than the chump. Lol, no way PA is going to be red, not gone do it, not at this juncture.
