I think they are the most reliable and hardest to tamper with.

We use optical here in western Mass. They are reliable and you get the results quickly.

3. We still use optical scan in Alaska too...

..and everyone seems to like the system just fine. They keep talking about changing to the touch-screen (the state certainly has enough money for it $$) ... but they've decided to hold out until the paper receipt deal has been resolved.
