FOR THE LAST TIME re Kerry's HONORABLE DISCHARGE!!!!!!!!!!
OFFICERS DO NOT GET DISCHARGES UNTIL THEY RESIGN THEIR COMMISSIONS.

Kerry left the ACTIVE DUTY Navy in 1972.

But Kerry KEPT HIS COMMISSION and went into Navy RESERVES.

So Kerry DID NOT GET ANY DISCHARGE PAPERS in 1972 BECAUSE HE WAS STILL COMMISSIONED.

When Kerry left the Navy RESERVES in 1978, HE RESIGNED HIS COMMISSION AND GOT HIS HONORABLE DISCHARGE.

That is why there is a difference in dates; yes he left the ACTIVE DUTY NAVY in 1972...YES his Honorable Discharge is dated 1978...that's because as an officer Kerry KEPT HIS COMMISSION UNTIL 1978.

OFFICERS DO NOT GET ANY DISCHARGE PAPERS UNTIL THEY RESIGN THEIR COMMISSION. KERRY KEPT HIS COMMISSION UNTIL 1978. THEN he got his HONORABLE DISCHARGE.

GOT IT? GOOD!

2. One minor clarification:
Kerry did not resign his commission--he received an administrative discharge.

5. Technically it was involuntary.
The Reserve had large numbers of inactive officers still connected to the service.

Rather than wait for them to submit their resignations (many probably forgot and never formally submitted their resignation), they just cleared the ranks by giving them a hearty congratulations/thank you with an honorable discharge.

It was not a discharge based on Kerry's merits, but rather a mass clearing.

6. Thanks!
Now I've got in my memory. I'm sure it'll come up pretty often with the Freeper crowd during the next 4 years. :)
