Also, I get the feeling that Tom, in his final months with NBC before retirement, has probably seen the hand-writing on the wall; namely, that a new administration is about to take over, and it's best not to leave them with a bad taste in their mouths for him, or especially, for his successor, Brian Williams.

When he says something to the effect that, "I hope my voters show up. If they do, I'll win".

Translation: if a few million people materialize from the ether, I'll win. Bush's tone was edgy, irritable. Either he's exhausted from all his campaigning, or he knows something I don't.

He just sounded pissed, and was picking a fight with Tom Brokaw.
