On eve of election eve(ha)who'll shout out to HOWARD DEAN?
gawd, can you imagine if that guy wasn't around last year? Can you imagine if he wasn't personally surgically adding a spine to the Dem party last year and early this year?

Kudos goes out to all who supported Dean so fervently and the great internet savvy of his campaign folks.

My oh my. The Dean Dream is not dead or even slowing down. We will carry a momentous victory into the great beyond with much hard work ahead.

I pray to Yahweh, Allah, the Great Spirit, Jehovah, the great Creator...whoever will listen. I pray for a Kerry victory brought on by enthusiastic support of this great man--this great politician and leader...

I pray we have it in us to dig deep and remember what these four years have been.

But mostly I sit here and imagine the mealy-mouthed and devastatingly uninspiring campaign for Dems if we didn't have Dean in the mix early.

Thanks again Dr. Howard Dean.

27. I will also B @
a DFA MeetUp on November 3. We R going 2 take one month off. At the January, 2005, MeetUp, we R going 2 begin the process of identifying candidates 4 city council, school boards, water districts....every local office that will benefit from a progressive voice. We learned Xcellent lessons being involved w/ Howard's campaign (did anyone else notice or was it the same in your area?...but the dedicated Deaniacs were the hardest working volunteers, the most creative and the natural leaders...here in SoCal, Deaniacs WERE the Kerry campaign cuz there wasn't a Kerry organization in CA during the primaries).

After a short break, we'll be back to business for local politics. I'm also looking to see if we can ally ourselves with groups like League of Pissed Off Voters and plan some stuff together.

10. Ditto. I gave him a year of my life and $800...
...even though I was unemployed.

I couldn't afford to give Kerry any money, but I continued my Dem tabling and video presentations, all paid for out of my pocket. No financial help from Dems or Kerry.

Last night was my last time out. Total tabling time: March 20, 2003-October 30, 2004. Every Friday night.

I drove to Arizona to canvass for Dean. Went to Dean fundraiser at LA Union Station. Got the tickets for my wife and I ($200 campaign contribution) from selling campaign merchandise.

Marched in all the ANSWER LA anti-war marches.

Phone banked.

Last week I finally got a job, for 30% less than I made before.

I'm no hero. Just did my part because I love America.

I'm tired now, so Tuesday I am going to watch the returns at Khoury's with good buddy and fine Democrat Michelle. I will buy her a beer and she will buy me a beer. Then we will go home happy, God willing.

57. Union Station. What a party, eh?
Yeah, someday we'll all look back and sing "Those Were The Days". Wow. I got Nixon, Vietnam, Reagan, the end of the Soviet Union, Bush 41 down in flames, 8 great years of Clinton, 1 divorce, 2 national tours in rock bands, playing on albums by two of the greatest bands that never were, the rise and fall of Chimpy 43, a legend in his own mind, meeting Peter Gabriel, Joe Cocker, watching my daughter getting ready to graduate high school (a true hippie) and following in her daddy's footsteps as a bass player, my second wife Jackie surviving quintuple bypass surgery and complications, watching my mom, always politically active, slowly dying of MS,Howard Dean, and blogging with all of you wonderful humans here on the Underground. No matter what happens from here on out, I will die a happy man. The hell with the sixties; they've been going on for me for over 30 years.

Thanks everyone- wow what a ride! I will continue to enjoy browsing here.

Thanx Rozf, you are for real my brother, and keep it that way.

6. I think Dean focused more attention on all the Dems.
Of course, I say it from the perspective of an early-adopter Dean supporter, but I don't think it's going too far to say Dean did turn the camera onto the Dems earlier than if he hadn't been in the running.

Kerry was on my 'short list,' and I sort of figured -- even when Dean was polling well, before Iowa -- that Kerry would end up being the nominee. The Dean campaign taught all the other candidates a lot about framing the debate against Bush* -- though it was a cocky strategy, Dean came out of the starting gate like he was running against Bush* as much as the other Dems in the primaries.

It's probably unrealistic, but I'd like to see either him or Dennis Kucinich in Michael Powell's place. They're the two who were the most outspoken proponents of media reform during the primaries. I think that may have ultimately hurt both of them -- you don't call the kingmakers assholes, it just isn't done -- but either of them would certainly mold FCC policy in a way that would be beneficial for everybody.

8. ME!!! ME!!!! Over here!!! ME!!!!
My heart will ALWAYS belong to Hollerin' Howard.

It's because of the Good Doctor that our party got its backbone back. He gave us a spine transplant, with mega-vitamins and calcium supplements. He's the one who started this. He's the one who got me really active and hopeful. I never got this deep into a presidential campaign before, and it's because of him. He is our patron saint and our guiding light. The spark of our rebirth.

God. Bless. Howard. Dean. This victory will be his every bit as much as it will be Kerry's.

13. Count me in.

I cried when his campaign imploded, was sick about
it for weeks.

But as this campaign has rolled along, I realized just
how good John Kerry is, as a campaigner, but also what
a really good president he's going to be.

My heart will always belong to Howard Dean, because he
was the scruffy kid in the back of the parade who yelled
out at the top of his lungs that the emperor didn't have
on any clothes.

He drove the Democrats to stand up to Bush. I'm sorry
they needed it, but at the same time I'm so glad that the
scrappy fireplug from Vermont was there to do it for them.

Thank you, Dr. Howard.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

19. If not for Howard Dean, I would have left the Democratic Party after 2002
...the complete lack of spine in the midterm elections (and resulting humiliating defeat) pissed me off entirely. It was Dean's voice that pulled me back and made believe the Democratic party could be saved. And our work doesn't end on November 3, or even January 20. Or even with a midterm overtaking of Congress in 2006. It's just the beginning, and this party owes a lot to Doctor Dean for bringing it back from the brink of death.

we just need to batter and beat and fight and scrap to bring this country back into line with where mainstream Americans stand.

no stopping after election. I start down the road fighting for more senate seats in 2006. then the presidential campaign of 2008...I'm going to work hard on my family to get more involved..

36. I'm running
for the Kansas State House of Representatives.

I did a lot of volunteer work for Dean, including hosting Meetups, going to Iowa twice, donating money. When it was clear he wasn't going to be the nominee, I started volunteering for a woman running for the U.S. Senate here. When she decided to end her campaign (because she knew she couldn't win) I immediately started volunteering for Dennis Moore, our incumbent Democratic Congressman.

In early June I got a call from the state Democratic Party, asking me to please consider running. And I decided to go for it.

The essential issue here is education. The legislature failed to pass any school funding bill, and the state supreme court is now involved. I'm telling people there needs to be a change in Topeka. I'm up against a popular moderate Republican, but there's a Reform party person in the race who takes the anti-choice, no new taxes votes. So I have a chance. I'll be doing my very last door-to-door campaigning tomorrow.

24. Thank you, Dr. Dean
In the worst internal American crisis of the past forty years, in the greatest vacuum of leadership this party has seen in this century, when the putative powers-that-be were playing tight at best and completely supine at worst, Dr. Dean told anyone who would listen, in clear and powerful language, what we already knew individually but almost none of our officials would say publically. I don't know what history will say about the importance of his campaign, but people who lived through these times will not forget.

37. hate to be the one negative voice here
but i never was a deaniac. all the obvious reasons. and i don't think he deserves so much credit for energizing democrats. i was as energized as i could possibly be, and i thought dean's brand of righteous anger was a distraction and cost us broader support. i appreciate that others feel differently. this is a gut reaction. i was torn between clark, edwards, and kerry, ended up supporting edwards, but am very pleased with the campaign kerry has run.

i will give dean major kudos for the way he turned into a very good soldier once he lost, and he has handled it with grace and humor. i'd like to see him in the senate.

my two cents. no disrespect.

51. Howard Dean and the Deaniacs
Lifted this party off the deck after the midterms when they didn't know whether to shit or go blind. Kerry will be president, but if not for Dean and the Deaniacs we would still be trying to figure out how to beat that sumbitching Bush.

I am now, have been and always will be a Dean Democrat.

Go Kerry. Kick Bush's Ass!

55. Shout out from here!!! As a stay at home Mom, Dean was the very
first candidate I ever considered getting up off my butt for. And I did. And that made me do even more for the Kerry campaign. Dean is the one who shouted for us when no one else was listening. Dean is the big brother...the one who got shot down for the things he said...thus making it easier for Kerry to say them.

To Howard Dean!!! :toast:

62. Howard Dean: "The Work Doesn't Stop on Election Day"
http://www.democracyforamerica.com/

SNIP..."By the time most readers see this column, unless we have a repeat of the 2000 election, we will know who the president will be for the next four years."

SNIP.."There is more to politics than elections. Thousands of young people have discovered, as generations have before them, their efforts matter. Their actions matter because by getting in the game instead of straying on the sidelines, they are empowered, whether or not their candidate wins.

Historically, whether through the campaign of Gene McCarthy in 1968 or John McCain in 2000, the enthusiasm and hard work waned after the election. This time we cannot let that happen. Democracy is the most highly evolved system of government ever created by human beings. And like everything else we create, it will wither and die unless we nurture it...."

SNIP..."Politics is too important to be left to professional politicians. It matters who is in office, from the school board to the presidency. The next election cycle is in a few months for local office, and in two years for federal office. If you love America, it's not enough just to vote. Run for office. If you cannot do that, volunteer or work on a campaign for three hours a week. Donate to a candidate's campaign. It does not have to be a lot. It can be $5, $10, $20 every bit helps. That is how you stop politicians from responding only to special interests.

We can change this country. It will take time and hard work, but if we start today ordinary Americans can take this country back...."

63. Howard Dean became tjhe soul of our party
when it seemed that it had lost its soul -- When we win tomorrow, some of the credit should go to Dean!

During the dark days of 2003, when the sheep in our party were following C-Plus Augustus into his ill-fated war, Dean had the courage to stand up and say "no." As someone who was on a corner at a candlelight vigil the night before the war began, I know how lonely it was back then.

Thanks, Howard, for your courage, passion, and common sense!

He was the first candidate I ever sent money to. And while I've come to love John Kerry almost as much, I hope we'll be seeing a lot more of Howard Dean in the coming administration. I saw him on TV a few weeks back, and wished everyone in the country had seen that interview. He told it like it is - no mincing words, just the straight truth. There's no need for insults, nastiness, or snide remarks about the opposition, when nothing in the world is as devastating as the truth. And Dean can tell it like nobody else.

77. Many thanks to the good Doctor!
Dean got me involved and donating. I took that enthusiasm and drive and pointed it toward Kerry after the primaries. I would have done this for Wes Clark. I would have done this for John Edwards. I would have done this for Dennis Kucinich. I would have done that no matter who had won, as Howard Dean has taught me with his example, his words, and his love for this country.

and since then, John Kerry has won me over completely, and although I had at one time hoped it would be Howard Dean, I will have nothing but respect, love and gladness in my heart as John Kerry becomes President-Elect John Kerry. and Glee!

Howard Dean taught me to place country above self, country above party, country above idealogy, country above all.

He is a great man and I am proud to have supported him.

when there wasn't much to be had. When his campaign efforts were derailed, he became an exemplary campaigner on behalf of John Kerry.
