Craig Crawford: I've gained a lot of respect for him |
|
Just watching the repeat of Hardball. He stands alone on the Repug laden panel (Andrea Mitchell, Pat B. Some guy from Newsweek and Tweety) in saying this thing is trending toward Kerry.
They're all savaging him.

Some DUers don't seem to care for him, but I think that his comments generally seem to be appropriate and smart. Perhaps some people are turned off by the fact that he always seems to be on a caffeine high when he's on air. :)

4. I loved the way he looked at them... |
|
like they were out of their minds.
I think they really are in a media bubble. Crawford is someone who does the kind of groundwork journalists used to do - he interacts with real people, not just the drones the campaigns send out.
I never fret over the elitists in the media calling the election for Bush. They were way off on Iraq, and as far as I can tell, they haven't changed their ways. They think the height of journalism is spending 5 minutes with Karl Rove or Dick Cheney and then reporting the conversation verbatim.

5. some balance on that show. crawford was stunned by their remarks |
|
he was not about to buy the spin from the newsweek guy (a repuke anyway) or mrs greenspan about a hidden majority voting repuke. crawford went right at them on that and dissed them on making up a late bush surge without any evidence.
as crawford talked about democratic efforts to get out the vote, it was like he had been in the engine room of a ship and knew how fast it could go, while the others were looking at the sea and arguing with him.
the GOTV groups will help win this election for kerry (and the rest of us)

Jonathan Alter? I caught a quick glance at him as I was passing through. I heard he underwent Chemotherapy for some sort of cancer. Jon is usually on our side. What happened?

He was the least worst of the three, but it was a real Bushfiesta until Crawford jumped in and said, "I disagree with every single thing I've heard here."

Along with Andrea Mitchell, who seems to be doing her best to pump up Bush for her hubby Alan Greenspan. Wall Street is salivating at the prospect of getting your Social Social dollars if Bush wins and privatizes Social Security. The thought makes Wall Street absolutely giddy and they are huge Bush contributors!
The Greenspans could care less about "Main Street." Wall Street is where it is at with them. To hell with the middle class!

11. I finally saw Jonathan Alter two weeks ago |
|
He was briefly interviewed on one of the cable networks. Wearing a baseball cap, obviously to cover hair loss via chemo, and not looking that great. I really like Alter and heard he made some very negative remarks about Bush & Co. when he learned of his cancer, possibly faced with his own mortality.
Alter was the first one on cable to break the story regarding Palm Beach County ballot problems on election night 2000. Later he was desperately spinning for Gore, insisting Gore would become president based on the popular vote win, that electors would switch over. Russert respectfully disagreed and looked baffled at Alter's claim. I knew it was innacurate, but loved that someone in the media was fighting for the good guy.

That's pretty impressive. He can really be full of hot air, until it comes to crunch time. Then he usually shoots straight. If he responded this way, that says an awful lot to me.

7. Andrea et al were like chittering mice |
|
trying to hypmotize themselves into Bush-hope, just standing up on their little hind legs and squeaking and nodding at one anothere with fake certainty. And then Crawford just called their bullshit like a big Clark Kent dog barking at rabbits. Buchanan didnt believe a word he was saying, and I think despises the dumbshiut Bush anyway, but Andrea backed down like the little wienerdog she is. She'd just been boasting that Bush was moving up in all the battleground states, then Crawford called her out and she trembled & squeaked, "Well, he's doing better in a couple states." And even that was only according to the Mason-Dixon poll, which is run by the great-grandson of Robert E Lee. Andrea will be one of my favorite people to see after the election when she is groaning and moaning with those stanky crowfeathers sticking out of her chomping yap.

when Craig called them on their bullshit. He believes there is a "hidden" Kerry vote and so do I! It was pathetic when the Newsweek joker tried to claim "Well, there's a hidden Bush vote, too."

he's at his best in one-on-one interviews. He's a frequent guest on Countdown and he seems more relaxed with Keith than the Hardball panel, more able to say what he wants to say without interruption.
