Freeper Priest at Sunday mass in St. Louis got a little surprise |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 03:35 AM by zulchzulu
I was on the road recently in St. Louis and was roped into going to a Catholic mass.
The priest gave a sermon basically calling for all this flock to vote "pro-life". He made a disingenuous and skewed appraisal of all the wonders of being "pro-life" combined with the need for capital punishment. Yeah, he was for that, but fetuses must be given rights. Of course, no mention about how if Uncle Bucky raped Lil' Debbie in the shed that she would have to bark the pup for Jesus... just simple dumbass, puritanical smeg with a little "yer gwoin' ta hell" on the side.
Lucky for me that I had a Kerry-Edwards button in my possession. I pinned that puppy on and when I had him give me the host, his eyes popped to see the ever-evil button firmly glistening in the sunshine and on his ever-hateful eyes as he gave me Communion.
OK. Then after leaving the service, I noticed that some zealotish idiot had put a "Vote Pro-Life" flyer on my windshield. A big smiling Chimpy was the main event for the sheep to vote for.
The crowded parking lot full of Bush stickers on their minivans got to see me tear the paper up in pieces and throw a little confetti cloud on their holy parking lot.
That's the last goddamn time I go to that church.

I can't believe the hypocrisy of those who claim to be pro-life -- but also pro-capital punishment.
And a pulpit is NO place to be stumping politically. That asshole shows precisely why many (or most?) churches should be denied tax exempt status.

2. And the IRS has the gall |
|
to target the NAACP's tax-exempt status.
Where is the audit of the Catholic Church? Why is the church still tax exempt?

5. Funny you mention that |
|
The priest has been under investigation for having a little too much fun with kiddies on the camping trip bus.
My guess was that the possible pedophile was doing his marching orders from Archbishop Burke in St. Louis, who is one zealot that is splitting up many of the catholic churches in that area.

6. Good going, zulchzulu! |

I gotta say, I'm sure that God appreciates your being a free-thinking man, able to keep a place in his heart for the welfare of his fellow human beings.
Good for you for breaking free of that man-made institution! :toast:

7. You may be a Unitarian and just not know it yet. |
|
Visit a Unitarian Church. You might be surprised at how welcome you'll feel and how respected your beliefs and values are.

9. I have to tell you that when I attended a Unitarian church, |
|
the minister did an entire sermon about Unitarians being intellectually and morally superior to members of all other churches. Since I was attending the church with a friend and her parents, all new members of the church, and I knew that her parents were not the sharpest knives in the drawer, I was not particularly impressed. But I most certainly was not made to feel welcome and I've never forgotten the minister's mocking tone and comments.
I've concluded that no matter what denomination you belong to, there are bound to be some clergy and some members who could embarrass you.

10. oh I think that was an anomaly |
|
most UU churches I have attended were very welcoming. Especially the one in Montpelier Vermont! Very big on social justice.

12. An anomaly it may have been, but it was unpleasant. |
|
My point was that generalizations are always false. I'm a Catholic now and I've had positive experiences in all the Catholic churches I've attended but I'm not naive enough to think that I'll never run across a bad one.

11. If he broke the law, tell it to the IRS. I'm betting that most |
|
priests who preached about voting pro-life stayed within the limits of the law, but if this guy overstepped the bounds, by all means report him. If everyone who hears a clergyman go too far in counseling voters to remember Christian teachings would report that person, this could be stopped.
