Republican meme well underway: Kerry stealing the election. (DirecTV)
I woke up this morning, and found a yellow star item on my TiVo (with DirecTV receiver built-in): "The VP's, A Heartbeat Away." Clicking on it takes you to an 8-minute election eve wrapup from Fox News Channel, as a special for DirecTV subscribers.

Skipping over their loving coverage of *, I stopped fast forwarding when I got to Carl Cameron's coverage of Kerry. A few key phrases popped out at me. Emphasis mine.

"New Hampshire <i>is a red state</i>...but Kerry's eyeing a pickup."

"Monday, on the eve of the election, Senator Kerry will campaign in Ohio and Florida, <i>two states he'd dearly love to steal from President Bush</i>, and Michigan, <i>a state won by Al Gore four years ago, that Kerry finds the President threatening in.</I>"

The basics? Any state that voted for * is automatically in his column, and the election is automatically Bush's. Meanwhile, Kerry is worried about his own states (the President is "threatening" in Michigan), and Kerry can only win if he "steals" Ohio and Florida. THE MAJORITY OF VOTES HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN CAST YET, AND NOT ONE VOTE COUNTED. YOU CAN'T STEAL SOMETHING FROM SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE IT!
