I know, I know . . .it's not over. But I get chills when I recall all of the efforts here. Folks just don't know what the internet is capable of until they visit DU. I am in awe at the multitudes of thoughtful, intelligent, committed folks who come here to share, act, and agitate. I've learned a hell of a lot. Mostly I've learned that there are is an infinite amount of viewpoints that don't square with my own, and still, I feel stronger for hearing them out and debating them with y'all.
This isn't my first foray into the world of presidential politics but it's my first with a computer. I broke down from my natural state of being living without gadgets and hi-tech because I wanted to make a difference and expose Bush for the cretin he is. It wasn't the easiest job at first with all of the flag-waving nonsense following 9-11, but we prevailed in getting the majority of Americans to admit that the emperor had no clothes.
Now we are poised to take back our country. I won't pretend that we were always prepared for this. Apathy is the first refuge of the disenfranchised. I swear, the top of my head hurt so bad when Gore conceded that I thought I would explode. But I got up the next morning, resolved to make a difference. DU appeared and, for me, the rest is history.
I won't pretend that after this election is all over that I will vanish from here. I've made my share of ignoble exits, only to return with a vengence. I will however, commit myself to some sort of evolution from the trenches of the presidential race to an embrace of the legislative fights that will surely be important and possibly devastating.
We kicked some ass here. You folks are finest bunch of maniacs I have ever had the honor of burning daylight (and moonlight) with. Here's to us! The People. United.
Thanks. -Ron
