What will your response be: Bush wins Popular Vote - Kerry the Electoral? |
|
I will say - "Well, I guess it all comes back to you in the end huh?"
I am a firm believer in using the popular vote instead. The electoral college is not reflecting what a true democracy should be.

4. I heard the Republicans planned for that in 2000. |
|
They had a campaign in place for their boy to take it anyway.
Let's hope we get enough votes counted to avoid this scenario.

I really don't think Kerry can lose the PV.
IF, by some freakish miracle or manipulation, he does, and wins the EV, the bushies can't say ONE WORD about it.

6. There's no way we can lose the popular vote this year |

unless the votes are somehow trash canned in obscenely huge numbers.

7. We just have to get teh new registrants to get out there and actually VOTE |
|
As for the original question, I would say NO. I want it all. I want a legitimate president chosen by a majority (or plurality) of Americans, and I want this confirmed in the EC.

to vote (3-4-5 hour waits) are pretty clear indications that our voters ARE coming out determined to cast their ballots...

because it sounds like crappy weather is going to be widespread tomorrow.
Hopefully Dems feel enough vitriol for * and his cronies that they'll stick it out.

I'll say it indicates that electoral reform is badly needed, now that we've had two opposite results in a row. If the Republicans are so mad about it, they should have Congress take up amending the Constitution to allow for a popular vote result. And then the sparsely populated, heavily-conservative Republican western states will have little or no impact on national politics, while the big liberal Democratic cities will become the focus of the campaigns and thus have more influence on national policy, regardless of who is in power.
And meanwhile, Kerry remains the duly elected president.
Works for me.

17. I don't think it can happen that way |
|
the reason it happened the other way in 2000 is that the unpopulated states in "Bush Country" are over-represented in the EV. THat hasn't changed that much, so I don't see how Kerry can win the PV but not the EV.
The other way round is much more likely, IMO, which is why the repubs haven't been talking bout doing away with the EC.

18. Damage/Spin Control Phase One... |
|
I couldn't believe when I heard Whore-a Ingraham this morning claim "the Kerry 'operatives' want to make the election look close, proclaim victory early and then contest it in the courts". Pot Meet Kettle!!!
The end game is that somehow Bunnypants really did win the popular vote and that the voter shennanigans by the Democrats suppressed those numbers (BOOKMARK THIS SOMEONE). It'll be like the '60 crap that Nixon really won but didn't contest it. This will enable the hivedwellers to lick their wounds by blaming us. LOL.
This is getting better as the day goes along.

I also believe in the popular vote, but the time to institute it is not on the day of the election. Bush had the chance to take care of it for four years and he chose not to. He can't change sides when it isn't convenient to him
