I normally pay little attention to these things, but the Nader number shocks the hell out of me. What the hell is up with that?
This was on MSNBC a few minutes ago. No link.

not even 12% of Nader's family members are voting for him...this makes no sense....I have no clue who conducted that poll but I assure you that it is not accurate....I thought Kerry had a "safe" lead in Michigan like a week ago. Any other Michigan polls out there (that are credible)?

Michigan is the state.

28. Shoot -- the only way Nader would poll 12 percent in Michigan |
|
Was if the question was "Should we tar-and-feather Ralph Nader?". This is the state that built the Corvair. We lost a LOT of jobs because of "Unsafe at any Speed," and we haven't forgotten it. Nader appeals only to goo-goos and whippy-dips here. He might get one percent of the vote -- if that. View from the ground here in Michigan? We're up by six to eight points and gaining. John Nader? Twelve percent? Sheeeeeee...

39. MANY MANY disgruntled repugs are voting for Nader this time..... |
|
They can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry, but they can kill 2 birds with one stone if they vote for Nader:
1) Take a vote away from Kerry
2) Make Democrats even madder at Nader than they already are.
That's why the republicans have been funding the Nader campaign... they KNOW a bunch of their people WON'T vote for bush, but they sure didn't want Kerry to win without a scandal.
I SERIOUSLY doubt that Nader is getting 12%, disgruntled repukes or not. However, many of the votes we'll see for Nader this time ARE NOT DEMS AND GREENS like we had in 2000.
There will still be some greens & Dems voting for Nader, but one helluvalot of repukes I know are voting for Nader, 'cause they can't stand bush, but can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry, either.
Take a deep breath, and O8) PRAY!!! O8) Besides casting a vote and working the polls, and shuttling people to and fro to vote, that's about all we can do right now!

40. Is that necessarily bad? |
|
If it IS in fact disgusted Republicans who are voting for Nader rather than hold their noses and vote for the "Liberal" Kerry, is this really bad for Kerry? These aren't Kerry votes being pulled away, they are Bush votes that would otherwise stay home and not vote at all. Nader's strength in 2000 came from the Greens, who are decidedly liberal -- there isn't a Green on the planet who's going to vote for Nader this year.
I actually find this vastly amusing - the GOP has been funding Nader because they saw him as a Green magnet, yet he may end up becoming exclusively the protest vote for those Republicans who cannot in good faith vote with their party and are looking for an alternative.

42. No, kurt_cagle....it's NOT BAD at all! |
|
It's like a republican ballot trash can, if you ask me. I just don't want Dems to despair that Nader is pulling all these votes from OUR side -- which many Dems believe! He ISN'T!! He's getting a lot of votes from the disgruntled repukes, and I think it's fine! If they didn't vote for Nader, they'd be voting for bush.... which a lot of the repukes can't stomach this time.
It's actually a win for our side, but Dems keep freaking out, thinking that he's taking votes from Kerry, when he isn't!
I'm sure there are SOME liberals that are voting for Nader, but I think the majority of his votes this time will be disgruntled repukes, rather than self-destructive liberals. Most liberals are too smart to vote for Nader this time.
The repukes are just trying to create a deeper divide among Dems (creating divides is their specialty in our country) by voting for Nader.
Dems: DON'T DRINK THE KOOL-AID! Nader votes this time aren't coming from our side!
