I'm so fucking nervous.
This whole weekend I worked 14 hours a day or more every day. Haven't been near DU. My boss, a HUGE Kerry supporter, insists that Bush will win; he just doesn't believe that America is smart enough to vote in their best interests.....also, the guy who rents out my band's practice space also said, "Bush is gonna win. People are fucking stupid." Almost everyone I know outside of DU thinks Bush is going to win, even though they hate the dude.

I, however, have been saying that Kerry will take it by two or more points. (with the caveat that Bush will probably contest the results, and it'll go to the courts again, yadda yadda yadda....) DU optimism is infectious. But outside the DU bubble, here in Chicago even, the feeling is that Bush sucks, he's gotta go, we'll do what we can, but the rest of the American people are going to vote repub.

There's a real disconnect there. I still maintain that Kerry will win, but these poeple are making me real real nervous!

Anybody got any Kolonopin?!

2. Well, aren't they going to be surprised on Wednesday. Just tell them to
get out and vote. And seriously ask them, "Do you want Bush to win?". "No", then stop speculating on doom and go vote !

4. Turn off the volume
the tv, the neighbors, everybody.

This is going to be the largest turnout in the last 50+ years. That means Kerry victory.

6. Um. Can we save these threads for the LOUNGE??
Things are going to be extremely tied up on this forum for the next 72 hours.. can we save the personal posts for the LOUNGE? We're all nervous and excited and working hard. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING. The personal stuff needs to go in the LOUNGE.

18. Nice attitude..
I know that you've been here all of what.. one month? I've been here since 2001, I know how it works here. Before you attack someone personally, as you just did, why not do some critical thinking. Let's do some math.. shall we? If every one of the 50k+ members of DU posted their personal state of anxiety, worry, unhappiness, etc. on the GD/2004 forum today, how MANY posts would that make?

You havenn't been here very long, so I guess you wouldn't understand the bandwidth issues we'll be facing in the next 48 hours. Personal posts about how we're feeling don't have a place here right now. They need to be in the Lounge.. or they need to be a response to a legitimate thread going ABOUT the election. Otherwise, this forum will stop dead in a few hours...

How hard is that to figure out? Keep your personal attacks to yourself... that's just disgusting.

19. I remember when you joined, Caliphoto.
I remember when Raven posted the first time around, before she left. I remember when JitterbugPerfume and Crewleader posted in the Lounge on a daily basis. I remember Carlos. I remember CiCi the Psychobunny. Do you?

There is one thread--THIS ONE--about anxiety about the election on page one of GD:04. I don't think it's going to bring the whole works crashing down.

20. Both of you: STFU!!!!
Look, *I* posted the damn thread. I agree with Caliphoto that it belongs in the lounge. janesez, I'm not offended, so don't worry. Like I said, I'd been away from DU for the weekend. I'm sure there were scads of "I'm nervous!!!!" threads before mine. I didn't see any others on the 1st GD04 page. Whoops! So....let's just fucking calm down, mmmmkay? It's reallly not that important, in the great scheme of things.

Anyhow, quit sniping at each other; it's ugly. We're in this together.

10. Don't worry, I'm in the same boat.
Last night wasn't a good night for me. I was somewhere between sleep and conciousness, with the election constantly on my mind. I feel sick to my stomach (which I suppose might be a good sign, I felt the same before the first debate) and I keep questioning everything, "What if the undecideds go for *?" "What if the rain keeps Dems away from the polls?" "What if they steal it?" "What if * picks up OH AND FL?" "What if all these newly registered voters have been overestimated in our favor?"

I'm always second guessing myself. Just stay calm and get through a minute at a time. We'll all be going through this together, so you know you're in good company!

13. I have the same knot in my stomach but I blame mine
on the fact that I live in a really, really, repug area of Wisconsin. We live in the country and the roads are awash with shrub signs. The closest small town to us, under 500 people, is so poor that the whole place should be bulldozed but the shrub signs are everywhere, go figure, very depressing. This area is so republican that dems don't even run in local or state elections from here. Try living with that day after day, hard to remain sane.

14. Snap out of it!
I suggest playing with this map to make you feel better: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/election-test-fl,0,1851284.flash?coll=la-home-utilities

We have a lot of room to work with. Bush has to win FL and OH (which are leaning both our way) and if he doesn't win both, he needs to win Nevada (Yucca Mountains), Colorado, New Mexico (Gore & Clinton won twice), and Iowa (Dukakis won this one!).

All we have to do is hold the Gore states and get New Hampshire + Colorado or Arkansas. If we get Ohio or Florida, it's over! Cheer up, get ready to party!

26. Not everyone, just me.
The major Kerry supporter people I know were very cynical this weekend, and it shook me, because I had been used to the optimism here on DU. Then again, I HAVE surrounded myself with very bitter co-workers who, like me, would rather be doing anything than cooking for a living.

29. From the streets here in Michigan RKZ...It's looking more than good.
Republicans here in the swing county of Macomb are voting Kerry. If I work the numbers from canvassing, of the people I have talked to a full 75% are either Strong Kerry, or leaning Kerry. That's a good thing. These pages were are working off of are for swing voters. Ignore the boss. All is going to be beautiful. Trust this mom!!! There's Moms out there canvassing even!!!
