Can I help folks standing in the long lines tomorrow???
Is ok to offer, what I may see as pro-Kerry voters lawn chairs to sit in, cold sodas, snacks, newspapers to read, hold their place in line to allow them a bathroom break???

I just dont want people to go home frustrated that they may be in line for hours tomorrow to vote. Especially eldery folks.

Anyone know if this is "legal"?

2. I don't know, but since bad weather is expected in many areas...
I would suggest going to a discount or dollar store, and buying umbrellas to hand out. I think that would just be seen as a good deed, as long as you don't discriminate in who you give the umbrellas to.

4. If line is long & I'm outside the "restricted area"....
I can wear Kerry shirt & maybe only the Kerry voters will want to use my chair or eat, drink freebies that i could offer them.

7. Just make sure...
that the chairs or umbrellas or whatever you're handing out are at least 100 feet(?) back or however far it is you need to stay from the doors. Take a cloth measuring tape so you can show it to anyone who tries to hassle you.

You cannot be seen as electioneering with your shirt on, so must stay a certain distance away from the entrance.

But what a great idea!
Thanks for thinking of it!

3. In Portland Oregon - we'll be helping on the front line!
My Husband and I will be loaning umbrellas, handing out coffee, cookies etc. and much of what you suggested sounds great too. Contact your local Kerry office to see how you can help.

Even though we have vote by mail, lots of people wait until the last minute to vote and traditionally the lines are long.

5. Our volunteer coordinator recommended
buying a big thing of bottled water (he said it is like $3 or $4 ) and offer to those that might get thirsty or something.

9. Am I able to park in the parking lot with Kerry stickers on my vehicle?
I just want to make sure I am legal & keeping the right people fed & watered. Hehehehe!

10. granola bars?
I'm trying to think what kind of snacks will sustain people. String cheese, maybe. Granola bars. Small apples, perhaps. Things that are too sweet or too salty could make people feel worse. A big thermos of coffee and paper cups might be great.
