If you are from a red state, you will have to be way too moderate to be an effetive leader.

I'd love to have a far lefty, but it's not going to happen. Byron does the job and does it well. And you'll note -- he's moderate red state guy, but no friend of bush

Best choice IMO.

Plus we shouldn't make the mistake ever again of having a leader from a red state. It forces them to back down to the repubs FAR too much.

Reid's expected to win reelection handily this year, but he's had some close scrapes before.

I think Durbin would be a great choice. I think he comes off rather well on TV, and he's tough and partisan, without being obnoxious.

45. if Daschle WINS, who's our new Senate leader?
Daschle embodies much of what is wrong with the Democratic Party ...

i hope he wins ... we need his vote ... but we surely don't need more of his useless, wimpy leadership ...

it's time for him to step down ... and, fwiw, i strongly agree with the poster above who said that our new Senate leader should not come from a red state ... Daschle has been forced to make way too many compromises to keep his seat and he's pulled the whole party down with him ...
