The thing that really haunts me about it is the 2002 midterms. Race after race with the Democrat leading in the polls, the Repuke pulls an upset. Every single time. Not ONE Democratic upset.
Terror alerts, etc., none of that worries me anymore. It's too late. Those machines, however... :scared:

I've broken out like a hormonal 14-year-old kid. They don't sell enough makeup here in my conservative red state to cover these bad boys up. Wednesday can't come soon enough.
I've taken Wednesday off to either sleep off the hangover or vent some frustration and hatred by painting my dining room if it goes the evil doers way... so at least I have a day of recovery!

12. Listening to the radio in Illinois |
|
this afternoon, someone called up on 890AM, which is the same station Limbaugh is on, and asked for help in deciding who to vote for because she's still undecided. She said she would like to "mush" the two candidates together because Bush would keep us safe and Kerry would help the economy. Roe Con, who is the afternoon republican shill, said he made a list of important issues like FCC regs, the war, and the economy and Bush came out ahead.
This poor soul listens to Rush as well for help in deciding who to vote for.
I just can't figure out why ANYONE would still think that Bush is gonna keep us SOOOO much safer than Kerry. This Roe Con even said "When you see the Bin Laden tape it makes you wanna vote for Bush." WHY? Bush let this idiot go so he can make these tapes. Where dealing with a lot of morons in this country people.

They probably got a staffer or someone from local GOP offices to make that call so they could make a few good points for Kerry but then bury him with all of Bush's supposed positives.
Sheer propaganda. But presenting 'content' of this sort keeps those Republican advertising dollars flowing, donchaknow.

I can't understand why so many people are certain of a Kerry win. I am hoping that he does but I remember 2000, when people were certain that Gore would win. We know what happened there. I prefer to wait and see what happens. All of the jubilation I see on these boards just makes me uneasy. I'll spend this evening calling people to remind them not to forget to go to the polls and vote for Kerry.

I honestly had no idea what was going to happen. The polls mostly said Bush, but by a tiny margin. From what I remember, everyone seemed to think that Bush would most likely win. Of course, we didn't know then quite how horrible a prospect that would prove to be...

39. Many people believed Gore would win. |
|
They felt that he won the debates and that with the many Bush isms, the revelation of Bush's DUI, Gore would be the winner. They were absolutely shocked that Bush became president. I frequented another forum during 2000, and there was the same kind of certainty that I am seeing here for Kerry that Gore would become president. I'd rather wait until he has actually won before declaring victory.

at least not until I read this thread! lol
My gut has been telling me for a couple of months now that Kerry would clinch it. And it wasn't based on anything more than a quote I heard hear from Karl Rove: He said something about how only 50% of those eligible to vote will vote in this election 'cause that's how it's always been done. And at that moment I knew we had them. It's their Achilles' heel. Why do you think they've been working so hard to supress the vote? We're turning out in BIG numbers and they don't have a chance. It's as simple as that. Every time I hear about somebody waiting out in the hot sun in Florida for four hours to vote, I get a thrill up my spine. There's a lot of fed up people out there that the polls are not touching. That's why I quit paying attention to the polls a while ago. Call me Pollyanna if you will, but I have a lot of faith in the American people to do what's right. We're not as stupid as the media and the right make us out to be. And it was proved years ago that the Moral Majority was neither.
So, no, I'm not nervious. I am looking forward to a "decisive victory" and a lot of crestfallen faces when the right realize that all their lying and cheating and money got them nowhere.
See you at the polls!
Peace, AL

when talking about the presidential horserace. I think Bush is going to squeek it out by a percentage point or 2....NOBODY HATES BUSH MORE THAN I DO....HE IS A CRIMINAL IN MY BOOK AND SHOULD BE PUT AWAY FOR LIFE.....but I am also an objective observer and I feel that Bush will pull it out in the end (with the help of cheating once again).
So many here are so confident and I just dont see why.
Also, Bush by any standard does not deserve to have another 4 years....this WH has committed so many high crimes and misdemeanors that this race should not be close at all....the fact that it is a close tells me the american people for the most part are either uninformed or stupid or both...cant figure our which one it is.
My wife tries to take the positive side of it all and simply says it is only 4 more years of George Bush and then it is over forever....but what kind of damage Bush will do in 4 years without having to face another election scares me shitless!

34. oh, and allow myself to introduce...myself |

I'm one of those "non-voters"/"first-timers" that seem to be so crucial in this election. I had the chance to vote in the previous two elections, but thought better of it and decided that all politicians were crooks. Well, when Bush started talking about the Axis of Evil, I had it. This is, by far, the most important election of our lifetime. To see a self-described political slacker/apathetic non-voter like myself making such enthusiastic statements should bring relief to your nerves and hopefully a smile to your collective faces. In the past few days, I've talked to a couple friends who were apolitical before, who are now ardent ABB'ers. If you're looking for someone to thank, it's not the genius of Michael Moore; it's the folly of Bush.
And to think that I would have voted for him in 2000.

|
New voters don't vote, college-age voters don't vote, the African American community is not as solidly behind Kerry as it was behind Clinton, the Jewish community is not as solidly Democratic as it has been in the past, the fundies are like zombies who will march to polls en masse. We can win this, but our GOTV effort has got to be top notch. Remember, the people in DU would be motivated almost no matter what. We're politically inclined and often activist in nature. But, the average person doesn't even like to talk about politics. We can win, but we certainly don't have it won.

And lose bad. We'll have a net loss in the Senate of at least two seats, maybe as much as five. Republicans are going to get a double-digit increase in the House. And Kerry will lose the electoral vote 299 to 239 and the popular vote by nearly 5%.
It'll then be interesting to see if they actually go through with the plan to replace the income tax with a national sales tax. I wouldn't think so. Surely even they're not too stupid to realize this would put inflation in the 50% and up range.
