Once we vanquish the Repukes, we should then turn our gaze on the media
After we massacre the Repukes tomorrow, we should use our new found power and shake the media to it's foundation. I say this often because I firmly believe this....The biggest danger to our Country's future is the current band of Republicans in the White House and the MEDIA!

5. I second that!
It's important enough to be in Kerry's first 100 days. He can point to the failure of the MSM to properly question *'s rush to war and say we need to make sure alternate viewpoints are heard. Even hit Repukes right where it hurts and say, "If the media has a liberal tilt, this will correct it."

Repukes will have no choice but to go along, or else admit there never really was a liberal media!

11. Good points.
How can anyone be against fairness?

Of course, the Republicans used the "Patriot Act" to undermine civil liberties, so what the hell do I know.

3. I said this last night. I with you 1000%
And we will need to keep the Kerry administration's feet to the democrat fire as well. I love my party and I refuse to let them become a party I don't recognize. We will need to give immense support to Dean, Kucinich,Sharpton, Clark as they keep the focus for us.

7. Media reform is my main concern.
A Democratic electorate NEEDS TO BE INFORMED. WITH THE TRUTH.

9. You are right!! 100% behind you.
This has been one of the most frustrating and dangerous aspects of this whole disaster.

One can expect that the other side will do what they can to stay in power and get us to think they are doing a good job. Unfortunately they have pushed the envelope in terms of honesty and secrecy.

But to have the virtual blessing of a compliant press is unbelievable. I feel betrayed. Deregulation and conglomeration of media is bad for democracy.

The basis of a democracy is a well informed public (Lincoln). The RW figured out how to control media and information in order to control democracy.

It may have always been this way to a degree, but in my 40+ years it certainly seems much more blatant and extensive this time around.

Dang.

10. Bust the media trusts.
Media ownership must be re-regulated. Diversity of ownership is key to making sure the media is representative.

13. A Kerry win is just the first step in a very long march.
Those guys have had over 30 years to build the machine they have now. We're just getting started but it's a good start. The Center For American Progress, Moveon.org, Air America, People For the American Way, Media Matters for America (and I'm sure there are about a dozen more) are the organizations that are the building blocks to a real progressive movement.

15. Freedom of Speech is not License to Lie
I'd vote for very strict enforcable libel laws.
I'm sure Freedom of Speech defenders might resist
but the two issues are vastly different.

There is no freedom to make up your own news,
to slander without recourse, and to abuse the
publicly owned airwaves.

17. Truer words never spoken.
These pampered and perfumed fucks need to get pitched out on the collective asses to make room for people who actually want to do a job. And there should be no "celebity journalists."

The nation needs to be totally de-Limbaughed. A genuinely balanced media will destroy the republican party.

19. Yes, and first thing too!
1. Change the rules and significantly reduce media ownership concentration. Nobody should control most of the media in any area.

2. Bring back the fairness doctrine.

3. Move Helen Thomas to the front of the White House press room. She gets the first question always!

4. Democrats should be talking about the rightward leaning media at every opportunity.

5. Democrats should boycott ALL cable news shows until they get serious and honest.

21. Without question or hesitation, trumad...
The lopsided, corporate media is probably the source of much of the trouble -- it is the filter through which the information (that which is reported on, at least) passes, and what comes out on the user's end is abominable.

Something must be done. Soon.
