Can anyone imagine a US political party trying to keep people from voting?
Can you imagine a western democracy actually closing poll while people are standing in line?

What does this say about the kind of democracy that the Bush regime is trying to export?

6. Yes, the Republican Party.
After all, they fought the Voting Rights Act. They hate democracy.

8. My 96YO grandpa told me it has happened before
back when he was little. He told me stories of how they did it. They suppressed immigrants, he told me. That's why many times the law enforcement is at the polls---things like this really did happen in the past. Probably does still in some places.

9. I have wondered this also - I think Kerry should have challenged
Bush on this. Bush could have stopped this crap with one word if he had wanted to.

11. I agree
We have discussed voter suppression a great deal on this forum but I can't recall hearing this subject being discussed very much by Kerry spokesmen. Maybe they have done so and I missed the discussion. Greg Palast has been speaking about the suppression of black voters in the south for a while now. It should have been an important topic in the campaign, IMO.

12. It's an American tradition
it happens every election year. It is usually ignored and is usually done along racial lines. What nation have you been living in that this surprises you?

13. Nothing new about voter suppression. . .
you just need to read a little more history. You'll find an abundance of info on it, from every era and for a slew of rationales.
