Our guy is neck and neck in the polls against an incumbent, wartime president; that's no easy task.

And the polls are far from the whole story; our guy's the winner.

She's owed props, whether you love her or hate her. Post 'em here.

1. Cahill?
I am not an insider but I remember that until Mike McCurry and Lockhart joined we were sinking.

2. From what I understand, she's good at the operational aspect but
I think Joe Lockhart has been key in communications. He was a crucial addition to the team.

3. Don't forget James "the raging Cajun" Carville
He probably put real backbone to their strategic operation - IMO.

4. Wait a few days if you want honest opinions of Cahill!
Very few people are going to say anything but positive things today! :)

5. Sorry, she sucked throughout the month of August
and I wonder if Kerry's rebound is due mostly to the addition of Clinton-era people like Lockhart.

6. August was when Republicans held their convention
it was always known it was going to be a bad month for Kerry. he had limits on raising and spending money that month also unlike the republicans.

7. Don't think so!
She let Bush*/Rove define Kerry all Spring and Summer. And their characterization has stuck to a large degree. August and the first weeks of September were the worst stretches in any campaign I can remember. The Democratic convention was essentially wasted.

Cahill's ass got saved because Bush* agreed to debate. Kerry cleaned Bush*s clock and salvaged the campaign. Given Bush*s record of failure, this race should NEVER HAVE BEEN IN DOUBT.

She almost found a way to lose.

9. it's a good thing Kerry didn't waste his money during those times
he would have had nothing left now if he used money for ads to respond to every attack back then.

and they did respond but the big media just didn't cover it. john edwards had been defending kerry's military service and going after those who attacked kerry's service long before he was even picked for vp.
