Illegal or just distasteful? Likeness of Kerry used as target.
A gun-nut co-worker told me today that at the firing range this weekend, his friend brought targets that resembled Osama bin Laden and John Kerry. He said that both targets were a big hit at the firing range. I can't begin to describe the level of disgust that I felt, toward the guy with the targets, and toward my co-worker who thought this was a humorous thing. I know plenty of Republicans, but today I was exposed to the worst freeper stereotype.

Anyway, I don't suppose this shooting of a Kerry effigy is illegal, but it sure is thuggish. I'll most assuredly make a point of not being a good sport with him come Wednesday, letting him know that his inbred little hero is on a one-way trip back to Loserville.

1. Today, no, he's not president, but Wednesday HELL YEAH you
shouldn't do that to a sitting President.

Further more call the FBI and Secret SErvice to accost the Freeper for wanting to hurt the PResident.

They did it when * was in office. They need to treat all threats equally.

6. I am a "gun nut" of sorts...
...and the pistol range I practice at is filled with (and run by) freeper types. But no one is allowed to have a representation of an actual human as a target. No way, no how. There are standard "silhouette" targets, though.

This is a pretty serious group of shooters (IPSC members for DUers who follow this type of thing) and they have a no-nonsense approach.

Tough to say what some yahoo types might do, though. These are the guys that think "hunting" is drinking beer and shooting from the back of their camper when bears and other critters come patrol the garbage dump.

Despicable.

9. I guess there are gun nuts, and there are gun nuts
I'm not picking on the 2nd Amendment, or those who like to shoot. But this guy basically tried to represent gun owners as being of one mind against Kerry / for Bush. Thanks for representing the reasonable wing of the "gun nut" faction.

13. You know ... if you did the opposite and brought a target of Dumbya
You can bet you'd be visited by the Secret Service in about 3 nanoseconds.

I too shoot in Freeper Hell. My indoor range is disgustingly pro-BC04. I have the only car with a KE sticker on the back ... I'm expecting to get it keyed ... but hey ... at least I'm as armed like everyone else (and a better shot).

I've been dying to try IPSC or IDPA ... it seems much more interesting than killing indoor targets at 21-30-50 feet.

21. If it's a public range - then those targets should be banned
I know public ranges around me ban them. And if it's a private range it still should be banned.

Most of the gun nuts I know are decent people - though most are also B/C supporters who've bought in to the NRA crap.

I will blame Dems just a bit (and the news media as well) for not educating themselves as well as they should on guns, ammo, etc. I've seen our side as well off in a dither on a fake gun issue.

I wish both sides could meet in the middle and write sensible gun laws.

Symbols do have import, you know.

I surely wouldn't make pictures of my family available for these yahoos to shoot at.

Would you?

14. It's absolutely illegal to have a target of a president, and since
the challenger is under Secret Service protection, it may apply to him as well.

I have a friend in the Secret Service.

16. Somebody puts up a picture of my kids...
...to shoot at, I'm getting mad and getting it stopped.

Yeah, I know its just a picture, but I guess I'm not be rational about it. It seems to me the shooter is saying, "Wouldn't it be fun to take a shot at <pelagius>' 8-year-old kid?" I don't take kindly to that.

I'd let them know about it ASAP. A visit from the SS isn't fun, and sounds like the creeps at that firing range deserve it.

19. No Biggie
7?£2\as no people are getting shot, it's nothing to get worked up about.

Back in the 80's, I had a reagan doormat (from Mother Jones mag. IIRC).

It was my property. As long as I endangered no one else, it was none of their business what I did to it.

25. I sure hope it's not illegal
I can't see any way in which this actually damages anyone. A law against it would seem more thuggish to me than the guy who used them.
