(He's a national talk guy, not strictly political,
late night and funny as hell.)

Dear Lionel Listener and/or Acolyte:

Election Day, Tuesday, November 2nd (notice the superscript - Dan Rather had nothing to do with this letter), is the most important day of your life. Your vote will determine future national and international policy that your grandchildren will feel and experience. You cannot in good conscience vote for a continuation of this administration that has imperiled us beyond any comprehension. Let me adumbrate why you should vote for John Kerry and against George W. Bush.

1. ; As the July 9th release of the scathing Senate Intelligence Report indicates, our country's assertions and claims which led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq were erroneous and based on CIA analyses that were wrong, misleading and overreaching. This should come as no shock to anyone even vaguely paying attention to the news and who delves into the issues beyond the Fox "News" Channel. Your government politicized its "intelligence" as a pretext to war, a war that was on the drawing board and planned for years prior to 9/11 - try 14 years at least.

2. ; Your government sloppily interpreted, cherry-picked and "stove-piped" life and death data to pursue a neocon agenda. (More on this nefarious cabal infra)

3. ; Your government marginalized the international community, the UN, Europe, name it. Remember these charming appellations: "Old Europe," "Chocolate Making Countries," "A Debating Society?" "Freedom Fries" anyone? We used the UN's Resolution 1441 as a condition precedent of sorts to validate invasion and as a pretext to a predetermined war and then we dismissed it. Smart!

4. ; Your government was hijacked by a nefarious group of utopian idealists known as the dreaded "neocons." These neoconservatives represent the most dangerous group of people that have infected your government and dragged our country into a war that they have yet to justify. They are the architects of this adventure which has left over 1100 brave Americans dead. Resolution 1441 was the reason given for our invasion of Iraq - not the liberation of a country or regime change or the excision of a brutal dictator.

5. ; Your government failed to plan adequately for post-conflict chaos or an exit strategy. It duped you into thinking that this so-called transfer of sovereignty was legit. When Bremer handed over "sovereignty" accompanied by a hearty "Good luck, Sucka!" your government thought that you'd buy this ceremony as substantive. That transfer of authority was accompanied by 947 pages of orders that restrict the "new" Iraqi government in myriad ways, e.g. that Iraqis must drive with two hands on the wheel.

6. ; Your government, under the insistence of neocon Richard Perle, placed initial power in the hands of such "luminaries" as Ahmed Chalabi, who hasn't been in Iraq since the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. He has an outstanding warrant based in Jordan after being convicted in absentia of fraud and embezzlement. This character is still touted as being legit. (Notice how these characters perseverate on notions they know to be incorrect, e.g. Cheney still insisting that Saddam and al Qaeda are connected).

7. ; Your government put our brave soldiers at risk by assigning them duties they weren't trained for or prepared or able to do. SOLDIERS AREN'T COPS. They're trained to kill people and blow things up. We have under-equipped them, forcing some parents to buy body armor on eBay. Think about it, $225 billion wasted in this quagmire and soldiers still don't have the requisite armor.

8. ; Your government is guilty of hair-splitting and parsing the subtle nuances of international law, especially regarding torture. This percolated to the troops through the ranks and directly caused the torture scenes of Abu Ghraib, which, incidentally, has become the recruiting poster of al Qaeda.

9. ; Your government persistently denies the undeniable fact that American forces abandoned the explosives cache at Al Qagaa (and that's caca) AFTER it took Baghdad - 380 TONS of powerful explosives that have since been looted and are now used by insurgents and terrorists to craft IED's and the like. A local Minneapolis TV crew was there at Al Qaqaa and noted American soldiers inventorying the cache after Baghdad fell. Yet the administration posits such fanciful ideas that Russians spirited them away or that they weren't there when American troops advanced on Baghdad. The New York Times on October 28th reports that four Iraqi witnesses observed looters storming the site. One reportedly asked American soldiers to help stop the pillaging and was informed that that's not in their job description. Can you imagine?

10. On Friday Osama bin Laden released his umpteenth video taunting us over his non-capture, a man the President wanted "Dead or Alive" but who now says isn't high on his agenda. Can you believe this? The hunt for Osama, the architect of 9/11 who bankrolled the biggest and most treacherous attack against my beloved country, was abandoned when this administration decided to invade Iraq, a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, had no WMD or plans to reconstitute such.

Plain and simple, do the right thing. End this calamitous, inept and clueless regime once and for all for a better, safer and more respected America. Vote John Kerry.

3. He's an equal-opportunity guy, kind of
like Letterman. He'll take shots at everybody,
so for him to come so completely over to our side
is amazing.
