13. Are there any discussion threads on abortion?
Because I am sick to death of the abortion issue...especially since it has nothing to do with abortion, and has everything to do with sex, womens rights, and mind control.

I asked someone point blank "What does pro-life mean? All abortions are illegal? Abortion equates to murder? What about miscarriage? Is that involuntary manslaughter? What?"

No answer. I thought Kerry's answer to abortion was right on, because the practical reality is that abortion is not murder, and everybody knows that.

16. I've always been curious about this concept,,,
how would it inevitably play out both logically and legally if a fetus was to be legally defined as a human being? Would not all rights and protections under the law be applied to them? If so, would it not be necessary to register these humans with the government at the immediate point in time of conception so they could be afforded the full protection of the law? Would a woman, who then, stressed her body through, oh, exercising rigorously, and thus unintionally caused the egg to not implant into her uterine wall a few days later be charged with murder?, manslaughter? willful neglect? How would the "death" of this "human" be atoned for and justice be done?

25. Guess they don't realize that the abortion rate went down under Clinton
As Bill Maher said, if they don't like stem cell research, they should have one of those embryos inserted in them and be forced to carry it to full term.

34. Fact is
...abortion was legal under English Common Law, the very law that our society is based upon.

By law, the fetus was not considered a human being until "quickening" - the time when the baby begins to move in the womb.

Another fact? Abortions go down when the economy is benefiting the largest number of people.

Here's a quote from the article linked at the bottom:

"I don't think it's an accident that the abortion rate went up under Reagan and Bush but went down under Clinton," she says. "We have to integrate parenthood and school or parenthood and work to relieve some of the social and economic pressures that make abortion feel like the only choice."

because the younger people pay for the old, and we're killing the young...

Is there a negative population growth problem in the US I'm not aware of??

6. Yes, just like He's letting so many of our military die and
the Iraqis. These people are so damn ignorant. And tonight on Paula Zahn, Bob Graham did a piss poor job of explaining stem cell research. He should have taken a lesson from Elizabeth Edwards. She did a superb job on it.

23. Yes, BUT it is still the responsibility of the people to cut through it.
I take it one step further. It is the people. And the people have allowed themselves to be duped. If the people didn't have shit for brains, the media would never be able to pull this stuff on them.
But I also think that this is just the beginning. America is young. But what does it take- another holocaust, before people start thinking for themselves?
Ok, I'll step off my soapbox. We're all getting anxious as the hours count down. Yeehaw!

10. Perhaps someone should point out to her
That the abortion rate went DOWN when Clinton was president and has gone UP every year since Bush has been in office. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that more people feel able to welcome a new life into this world when they have a secure job and health insurance.

The followup caller said what I wanted to say. So that helped.
BUT, I am still quite upset by the quantity of idiots in America. And I think the rest of the world, with the exception of Australia, is comprised of fairly educated people.
I'm glad you posted this thread. That caller had me boiling over.

24. The number of abortions have increased in the last four years
In 2000, abortions hit a 24 year low. There is something to say about a direct between the economy and the number of abortions.

28. More Abortions Under Bush Admin
Abortions are on the rise under Bush.

In many ways our candidate is illogical. Our candidate defies all logical political wisdom. I think this is a very good sign for the world. John Kerry is a rebel. He is a rebel against politics as usual. He stood his ground for many years. His aim is to represent the common man in this country and also in the world. Even in his youth he stood his ground. Vote for humanity tomorrow….vote for the man who will represent the common men and women in the United States and in the world.

Let’s all wear our harvest gold barn jackets!

In 1992, on the night that Clinton won the vote, CSPAN was overflowing with crazies. I was stunned at the vitriol heaped on Clinton. Kerry is going to get the same treatment tomorrow night from fundie rage. I wonder if Rev Foulsmell and Roacherson will proclaim God has abandoned 'Merika again?

32. I Just Cannot Believe
Not since, in my opinion anyway, W.W. II has this country faced something so crucial as our pending election. Or should I use Bush's word and say "Imminent?" And this caller is only worried about abortion. She, I assume it is a she, thinks this entire election is about abortion and dead babies. Of course we could debate until the cows come home what constitutes a viable "person" or not but this Bush licker apparently did not say anything about all the babies, women and various other children being and already killed in Iraq thanks to George Bush. Forgot the elderly being bombed as well. Where is the callers outrage for those people? I suppose in the callers demented mind only unviable fetuses are people and people already on this earth with real lives and families in progress that have been obliterated in Iraq are just so much cannon fodder. There is no explaining such bizzare thinking other than to say they are extremely dangerous to normal, thinking people that keep such insantiy in check.
