Clark Statement On The Republican Gun Rider
Does not sound like a Republican to me.

-snip-
"I'm a gun owner, and I believe in gun rights. But I am outraged that Republicans in Congress and John Ashcroft have put the interests of the NRA over the interests of law enforcement and our communities by proposing to destroy background check records after just 24 hours.

"Federal, state and local law enforcement officials agree that we need to keep gun sale background check records for at least 90 days. A GAO report found that hundreds of guns each year are mistakenly sold to people who aren't legally allowed to purchase them. For example, up to 500 guns are wrongly sold each year to domestic abusers, and the FBI has used these records to track them down.

1. Clark can kiss the NRA vote goodbye
well, so can ALL Democrats. There's one Democrat who will get a lot of NRA votes during the primary, but they will ALL vote Republican in the general election. No doubt about it.

We would all be a lot better off if the Democratic party lost its bizarre anti-gun fetish.

If someone can explain to me why the government needs to know when I buy a gun at all, much less why they need to compile a data base of gun purchasers I'm all ears.

3. Because over 2/3 of all murders in the US are committed with guns
If you keep track of the guns in order to keep them out of the hands of criminals, then you have a much better chance of preventing those crimes.
