It's called a Boston accent.

9. It's part of his New England dialect
I am surprised he has never "corrected" it (not that it needs "correcting").

Idea=Idear
window=winder

I am trying to recall other words that he "might" say differently. I'm no linguist..but I bet there are a few on here.

With the extra "R"s. Idear, winder, etc.

Kennedy said "Cuber" instead of Cuba, Kerry says "Idear."
I think it's charming.

16. English comes in two varieties...
...rhotic, and non-rhotic.

New England dialect is non-rhotic.

37. Interesting. . . I had never known there was a term for this but it is

rather widespread.

My mother was a non-rhotic speaker (she had idears about Cuber) and I've never understood why, since she spent her first 14 years in Georgia (which she pronounced Jaw-jah.)

Howevah, her mothah was from Massachusetts. ;-)

20. I have an IDEAR that Kerry will be going to WARshington soon...
People have funny ways of saying words...though I remember as a kid seeing an ad for a Grand Prix automobile and you can imagine I did not pronounce it as " Grand Pree"...took me a while to figure out why my mother was so mad...
