I may have switched over a "weak bush " voter tonight
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 12:10 AM by alphafemale
He spotted my Kerry button and started the conversation.

This was a Chinese Take-Out Place in Chatham Co. GA

"You're notReally voting for Kerry."

But he was friendly enough. He didn't seem to like bush much either, especially the Iraq War (Former Haliburton guy!)

I think he engaged me to find reasons to vote for Kerry.

He was a 2nd Amendment person. I believe I diffused those fears somewhat.

1. Kerry needs to confirm he is Strong Pro 2nd Amendment
Southern White Guys may swing on that issue.

Some of them really don't like bush.

Give them reason.

2. Well, Kerry running around in Camo with a gun should have helped.
What these folks need to understand is, it's the Republican party that has an almost sexual obsession with telling people what to do- not us.

It's a helluva lot more likely that a GOP president will criminalize the birth control pill and institute a federal bureau of non-marital sex investigation than a Dem. President will take anyone's guns away.

3. Kerry is safe on guns, Bush bad on environment
You're not going to convince anyone that Kerry is a stronger 2nd ammendment supporter than Bush, but hunters and other outdoorsmen do care about the environment. Bush has gone so far in supporting logging, oil drilling, and reducing pollution safeguards that they can vote against him for that reason.

Kerry has always been to the right of the party on gun control, but beyond that, it's a dead issue this election. Neither candidate is going to pass any new gun laws. The public doesn't support it now.

4. Thanks...now I'm hungry!
LOL! Sorry...not much sleep the past couple of days (but the Chinese take-out made me instantly hungry and I couldn't resist).

Good for you!! And great job! :)

5. I'm pro gun and Pro-Kerry
No soft spot there. I am a libertarian, and Bush wants to Amend the Constitution, and he's already given expanded rights of search and seizure, via Patriot Act I. I want my gun rights and my privacy. Bush wants to take that away in the name of protecting us. Give me a break. I can protect myself, without your stripping away my rights. Have a National Army, sure, but don't tread on me.
