If it weren't for DUer crispini, I would be feeling pretty down tonight. I've been volunteering for the Kerry campaign for the past few weeks,but I really had some setbacks today. I spent 4 hours trying to pick up voters to take to the polls, but each house I went to was empty (could have been another GOP job). So I phone banked for the rest of the day. Problem was, I have the flu. After about two hours I was feeling so sick that I just couldn't go on. I called all my adamantly anti-* friends (none of whom have volunteered), but only one could help me for half an hour. All the rest were "busy", but were "praying for Kerry" (yeah, that will get my voters to the polls! :eyes:)

Anyway, I posted my problem on DU, and got one response. Crispini finished calling ALL my voters, with a half hour to spare! She even ran to Kinkos to fax my list back to me. All hail Crispini- SHE ROCKS!

So give me hope, please, otherwise I'll never sleep tonight and won't have the strength I'll need for tomorrow's efforts.

4. Just got home from finalizing our county's staffing for GOTV

We had to finalize all of our volunteers and we were even able to add people above and beyond our ideal staffing levels.

We had NO organized GOTV for Gore here in 2000.

I am feeling positive.

I'll be spending the day inside a polling place, marking on a list all the Dems who show up. At 1 and 5, copies of my marked-up lists go to callers, who'll wake up those who haven't voted yet, nag them, offer a ride, or get an answering machine because the prospective voter is still at work, in line to vote, whatever.

Our county Dems tried this GOTV process in 2002, and our county chair says it boosted Dem turnout by 10-15%.

At 5 or so I'll go vote at my polling place and then join my husband at still another voting place, where he'll have been standing outside and encouraging voters to vote our way (or filling in to make GOTV calls or picking up voters or doing whatever else needs to be done).

A long day--and we do anticipate celebrating tomorrow night!

with a race this close. Our Dem HQ is using the same strategy (I'm on the canvassing, driving list. Hope the fever is gone by tomorrow)!

Part of the "pull" team. Apparently we are going to track down "sporadic" voters, and drive them to the polls. Should be interesting...

Apparently, they start deploying people at 4:30 AM today. I get to sleep in, my shift doesn't start till 11am. (but I go till the last have voted)
