My pledge to DU and my country on election eve
Man, have we waited a long time for tomorrow. I was 19 in '96 and 23 in '00, but growing up under Clinton there was always this sense that the government was doing it's job and our country was infallable. So until this year, I didn't vote. It seemed a waste of my time, and it didn't seem like my vote mattered. Lots of other people followed politics, and things always seemed to work out for the best when voters chose their leaders. That freed me up to concentrate on sports or something, I figured.

What a wake up call these 4 years have been! I've been more active in politics than I ever dreamed. Before I found this place, I thought I was the only one that saw what was happening to our country. For the first time in my life, I didn't see myself as an insignificant number in a mighty country, but I felt that America really needed me. I realize how much the fate of the country really is in the hands of people like you.

God willing, John Kerry will be elected tomorrow and he can start the daunting task of getting us back on track. I have no doubt that his victory will crystallize hatred in many conservatives as Bush's did for me, and they'll do everything in their power to see him fail. For me, I can honestly say that if I've learned anything good from this 4 years, it's been that thanks to the lives and deaths of untold millions, I still have the ENORMOUS privilage of going to the polls to let my voice be heard. And for as long as I live, I'll never miss a chance to do just that. I hope and trust that I'm in excellent company here.

Yeah, those were the days.....

We sure did get a cold slap in the face wake up call these past 4 years, didn't we? I have voted in every election I could since I was eligible to vote, and really I love to vote.
