Reminds me of when my aunt was convinced that my father, who had been made executor of my grandmother's estate, was stealing from her inheritance, and was even poised to sue him. He wasn't; in fact it turned out that he had given an undue percentage of his inheritance to her in order to appease her, and even her attorney refused to go forth in the suit.

I later learned that she and her son have a lifelong history of ripping off and outright stealing from my grandmother and other family members. Sometimes you project your own tendencies erroneously to others, assuming that somebody else would do exactly what you think that you would do under the same circumstances.

I find that this applies to our friends on the other side of the political divide quite often.
