CLOSED DOWN DUE TO LACK OF SLEEP CAUSING PARANOIA
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 04:06 AM by Bozos for Bush
Many of you have already seen this thread that discusses posted vote totals in Ohio:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1266264

Someone on the thread posted domain info about the site - it is owned by a company named Neustar. I have been researching Neustar for the last hour, wondering who they were, and came across this scary article:

http://icbtollfree.com/txt/article_7802.html

And now, I can't help but wonder why is a company like Neustar posting vote totals for Ohio?

I appreciate some advice on this - is there something here we should be investigating ASAP?

John

2. No worries
Read this part of the article re *.us:

"Neustar also snagged two contracts last year to dole out and manage Internet domain names under the new headings of dot-biz and dot-us, collecting $6 per address. Neustar has tallied a million new addresses so far."

5. Neustar has every single American's phone number
Scary thought.

Why would a company that manages a database with every single American's phone number post vote totals for an election before it happens?

It's late, I'm tired, and I'm puzzled.

3. a bit more info to clarify
If you look at the WHOIS information in the other thread, you'll see that Neustar is the registrar.

4. It shows them as the REGISTRANT
Doesn't that mean they run it?

6. On DU a week or so ago there was
the same kind of outcome of the election posted on the Green Bay site. Maybe someone has it and will put it up tomorrow.

9. Neustar runs the .US registry
State.Oh.US is owned by the State of Ohio, clearly: http://www.state.oh.us

12. Fair enough,
to question registrar vs registrant.

They administer the .us TLD (top level domain, like .com) as well as the second-level domain oh.us. Somebody's gotta do it! The nitty-gritty is here:

http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/domainname/usca/cafiles/neuindex.htm

The WHOIS info on the other page refers to the second-level domain.

The state of Ohio manages everything underneath oh.us, i.e., the next level down:
