Is Inclement Weather More Likely To Deter Republicans Or Democrats? |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 06:42 AM by arwalden
Are there any statistics that prove it one way or the other? Or just anecdotal evidence?

but if young voters turn out in big numbers this could turn that theory on it's head...
A young person is better equipped to face bad weather than a old person...

Democrats are used to putting up with shitty weather. It's not like we can afford umbrellas or anything.

And that's about 99.9%!
EDIT} If they do show up, tell them that global warming is causing the everyday violent rain storms, hurricanes, tornados and floods and that it's Shrub's fault! Then tell the folks in line about everything else that is Shrub's fault! ALWAYS...Improvise, Adapt, Overcome. Roll with it baby!

17. I'm handing out umbrellas |
|
to people I'm driving to the polls today, in Seattle we usually shun umbrellas, real Seattlites are too cool to be bothered by rain, so goes the theory. Today though is an unusually stormy windy day even for Seattle, I just woke up after 4 hours of sleep and apparentely the power had gone off briefly during the night, a rare occurence here. Anything we can do to make voter's wait in line more comfortable would be welcomed, I'm thinking of bringing hot coffee and bottled water, at least for the people I'm carpooling, and the people near them in line (and at least my carpoolers are stuck there until I pick them up, that sounds bad, but seriously, I'm worried about people getting fed up with the shit weather and giving in to four more years of even shittier weather). Facing rain here is a mark of a true Washingtonian, like we have any choice, anyway, but elsewhere rain could be a real deterrent, but I think more for reps, who aren't as tolerant and used to hardship. (I just saw that it's raining at some county in FL but doesn't seem to effect the long long lines already!)

18. I think the anger factor... |
|
... works in our favor here. Folks voting Dem are on a crusade to save our country, the Reps are just voting for the status quo, and believe me there are plenty of them who's heart is not really in it.
If weather has any impact at all, I think it will help our side.

Because for the most part it takes a republican a great deal of effort to put on their mask in preparation to meet the public. Also many democrats have had it much tougher in their lives than republicans and are therefore much more acclimated to having to do things despite the weather. Many affluent republicans just do not want to go out there and get wet and certainly not want to stand in a line under an umbrella. Besides I just have to think the democrats are by far more fired up to take the presidency away from Bush than the republicans are at keeping him there. If a poll convinces a republican the he or she do not need to put on weather appropriate clothing and stand in rain to be pelted in the face he or she will simply blow it off. I really believe they are just that arrogant. George Bush shot all the democrats the finger 4 years ago and it might have been as if he did it yesterday as they all are in line for a piece of his hide (metaphorically of course). Definitely bad weather will hurt republicans. Certainly in this particular election anyway.

22. Republicans don't like to wait out in the cold |

but this will deter Democrats since Democratic polling places tend to have much longer lines cause they are in urban areas. oh well, maybe bad weather will deter the young Republican punks who are intimidating voters.

25. huge lines - pouring rain - standing in line with umbrellas |
|
It didn't matter here. And this is a red state. Young, old, repubs and dems alike were in line in the pouring rain. The only thing that will keep people away today will be the people who just don't give a rat's behind.... and there are very few of these people around today, thank God. I am really happy to see the young people get out. This is a good sign.

Those who don't want to vote for * but can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry. They will stay home. I can't believe rain will keep any Dem out of line this year.
