Report from suburban Bergen County New Jersey
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 07:57 AM by Jersey Devil
My town is a bedroom community about 5 miles NW of the GW Bridge in vote rich Bergen County, a swing county we need for Dems for NJ to stay blue. My town, like the county, is a swing town.

We went to all the polls this morning to make sure they were open and operating properly, have checkers (marking off dems as they vote) in place with challengers in all districts. Checking will continue until about 2 pm when all lists will be turned into the phone bank for calling. The county dems are also targeting our swing districts. Canvassers go door to door starting at 2 pm, all bright, young college kids, some from Fairleigh Dickinson University nearby, some from Montclair State College and William Patterson College, all wearing Kerry vests. We are pulling out ALL the stops.

Report from the polls, in our town located in the schools which are closed today. Parking lots were full at 6:45 as NYC commuters lined up to vote. Lines were not long but in all the years I have been doing this (about 15) I have never seen any lines ever before in the early morning and lots usually were mostly empty in other years. Will give a % turnout report townwide after 2 pm.

Weather in NJ is expected to be OK, just some clouds and a slight chance of a late afternoon shower.

1. Jersey City here....
I live across a polling station.... long line. I'm not worried about Hudson County where I think K/E will probably get 80% of the votes.

5. We need BIG numbers in Hudson & Essex counties
and we need to take Bergen and Passaic counties. Hope all their county GOTV efforts are in place. Former West New York resident so I know what you're talking about - Hudson County is the bluest of the blue.

7. Jersey City here as well
I counted 120-150 people in line at the Newport/waterfront polling station. A lot of young people. Probably an hour to two hour wait. I am going to try to vote at lunch when it (might) be quieter. Good turnout in a Dem precinct (lot of people that have moved across river from NYC.) This is not usually a precinct with good voter turnout.

8. Little Silver reporting
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:32 AM by bklyncowgirl
Little Republican commuter town in Monmouth County. No lines early. When I voted I got a feeling it was mostly Democrats. A little later when my husband voted I saw more Republican types but not a deluge.

10. I live in the blue center of NJ
Mercer County is very Democratic, so Kerry will take this part of the Garden State quite easily.

I just hope people don't think it's going to be so easy that they figure their vote won't matter. Every vote matters!

11. Every vote matters, absolutely!
They're as important in red states and blue state as they are in swing states, if Kerry is going to get a mandate strong enough to really wipe these b*stards off the field!
