All those who don't have the right to vote, check in here!
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:21 AM by KitSileya
Seeing all those who've voted, either early, or today, checking in at the various threads make me green with envy. I don't have the right to vote in this, what many have said is the most important election in our lifetime.

I am not an American citizen. Yet I will feel the impact of this election too. Therefore, I feel it proper to start a thread where those of us who can't vote, either because of citizenship, age, or law, can check in.

One who wishes she could vote for Kerry, checking in!

2. I've got everyone topped.
My 18th birthday is Tomorrow.

So I miss being able to vote by a handful of hours.

Stupid ten years in prison/thousands of dollars in fines.

Ah well. At least I can get Kerry for re-election.

4. That's the spirit!
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:32 AM by KitSileya
My condolances - I had the same problem the year I, or rather we, as I'm a twin, turned 18 as well (we vote the first Monday in September.) I know how you feel. But it'll be nice to get them relected, and then Edwards again in 2012.

And edited to add, Happy Birthday tomorrow!! A Democratic White House will be a nice gift, don't you think?

9. Dancing in the seat for now, but
I'll be dancing in the street and singing my heart out tonight and tomorrow.

That, and my mother tells me that unless Kerry wins I don't get to even have a birthday. So the stakes are doubly high for me! *laughs*

I can hardly contain my excitement.

5. Kerry may be more protectionist than bush
which impacts Canada negatively. Most people don't seem to know that Canada is the US's largest trading partner.

We are subject to ongoing trade harassment from the US.

But for the greater good of the planet I'm rooting for Kerry.

16. Kerry's STILL better for Canada

You think we haven't been seeing protectionism already?!?!?
Lumber, cattle, etc. The Congress is protectionist anyway. I really don't see that Kerry being president will make that big a difference in that area.

And anyway, we should be broadening our trade base beyond the US in any case... to Europe, the developing world etc. We'll always find eager customers for our softwood, even if shipping is more expensive than to the US, but it all works out in the wash.

Besides, because of Bush, the US dollar has tanked and the Canadian dollar has risen enormously. THAT has had a more wide-ranging impact on Canada's economy (especially export-based industries) than any US protectionist trade policies.

All this stuff about Kerry not being good for Canada is absurd. The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Hey, he also wants to stop Toronto from shipping our garbage to Michigan. Well, guess what? So do we Torontonians!! It's ridiculous and embarrassing that we have to do that. Now that we've instituted our "green box" organic-waste collection, we should be able to drastically reduce our landfill-destined garbage, and find another solution.

Canada wants Kerry to win, no doubt about it. Go, my American friends, run to the polls and do the right thing, we're counting on you!!

14. But it's good to see you're politically interested!
I think this election has been good at waking young people up to how important participating in democracy is. Most of my students are frighteningly apathetic - yet I wouldn't want to have the country driven to the brink by a Bush-like type just to wake them up!

12. Count me in....
My legal residency only came through in September, and I have to wait two years before applying for citizenship. At least I did not miss it by a hair like some did. Oddly enough, although I have been political for many years, I have never been as involved in any election to the degree that I have with this one. I have donated and done whatever I could, within my limitations. Truthfully, I had never planned on applying for citizenship. I always thought circumstances could arise that would make me want to return to Canada. But if I could have become eligible to vote in time for this election, I would have made that decision in a heartbeat.

15. Green card...............
not allowed, but did a lot of work on line and donated a lot to Kerry/Edwards for this election which is the most important in my life (53 years old). Never missed an election in Germany.

My daughter in Seattle is joining her friend, standing in line with her, just to be there and I do the same today in Atlanta, GA with my friend!

We will win the electoral vote, but even more so it will be an even greater win if the popular vote is overwhelmingly KERRY !!!!!

21. You can get other Dems to vote this way
go to www.truemajority.org sign up and get a call list, then get to it. If you motivate one lazy Dem to vote, it will be well worth it!
