Ohio Duers, please keep us informed.
Are the repug "challengers" having any success in their efforts to create bottlenecks at the polls, thereby suppressing voter turnout?

1. No problems in my (overhwhelmingly white) district...

I never realized how homogenous Westerville is. There were at least 150 people in line, and not a single brown or black face. Not even any Asians, just a sea of WASPs (including me).

There wasn't a challenger there, which does not surprise me in the least. My voting area is waaaaaay on the side of evil.

MASSIVE turnout. I normally wait no more than 10 minutes in line to vote - today took an hour.

On Edit: Voting is in the local elementary school gym and as I was waiting, I saw a sign on the wall that said "This Week's Word Is: Tolerance". And I thought to myself "What the f*** do these kids have to tolerate - there ain't shit for diversity here?" I mean, what do they have to be intolerant of - is there some kid at the school who isn'y a Presbyterian or something? THE HORROR!

2. You may be surprised about how many really secretly vote for Kerry.
Reality has a way of creeping up on you.

3. no challengers that i could see
i live in olmsted twp, a small burb southwest of cleveland. i voted in a small church and the place was packed. voting began at 6:30am and my partner and i were in line before 7 and waited about half an hour before we were able to vote. my partner voted for the first time this morning and he was very excited.

there were no challengers as far as i could tell. the poll workers were very helpful and everyone was patient and waiting their turn.

when we left, the line was much longer. there will not be enough places to park in the church lot. i'm glad we went early.

too bad i've now given half of olmsted twp the flu, but, if it means kerry gets elected, it's worth it!
