Remember: the wider the margin Bush is beaten by...
the less legitimate his "election" in 2000 becomes.

Bush has desperately hoped that the 2004 race will see him win not by a land slide but a tsunami. He _needs_ to believe that he's really wanted by the American people, that they appreciate him enough to be their president. He didn't get enough satisfaction of that in 2000 so he's depending on 2004 to validate his belief that he's wanted and needed by the American people.

Blow out Bush today and the man is utterly destroyed in the American history books. He'll only be known for dubiously winning one election, failing another, and being an incompetent spoiled fratboy with a Napoleon complex who screwed up damn nearly everything in between.

Time to topple the little emperor.

1. This is a good point
I hadn't thought of it like that, but it's true. A huge part of his campaign has been just explaining that he is the president and therefore should continue being the president.
