Kentucky voting setup/workers are TERRIBLE.
Granted, this is my first time voting at 24, but GOD this is fucking horrible! I'm in the middle of republican hellhole country and even THAT can't get the polls to work efficiently. Its all BBV voting here, but even at 6 in the morning the lines were outrageously long, not because of high turnout (though the turnout is pretty big), but because of sheer election worker ineptitude.

Its now 9 in the morning and I've been trying to vote for 3 hours now. First precinct told me I was in the wrong place (Despite the official Kentucky electoral website telling me to go there) and then when I found the right place with FOUR gigantic precinct lines the official guy in charge of the place told me there was "no possible way" to know which precinct I was in if I didn't know already (my voter registration card must have got lost in the mail, I never saw it) and I quote him now: "You're gonna have to wait in every single line and find out which one it is, if any." -- Delivered with a smirk, no less. I guess my long hair and black leather jacket screamed common sense at him, and he knew I couldn't possibly be a Bush backer.

I'm going to hope the lines die down and try again in a couple hours, because I refuse to wait in 4 straight lines at 2+ hours each only to find out it might have all been for nothing and I'm supposed to vote in a completely different area. I'm trying guys, I really am, but this first experience with voting is NOT a good one, and you wonder why young people don't historically register turn out in high numbers. BAH.

3. I thought about it, but I'd not fit in with the rest of the electorate
Almost completely retirees and hicks, with very VERY few exceptions.

9. Did you ask for a provisional ballot?
That's Federal law that they give you one! After you call the 800#, that's what I would suggest you do.

5. Call the County Court Clerk in your county and demand to know exactly
where you are suppose to vote. Tell them to pull the information up on the computers and tell you right NOW. I don't know where in Kentucky but you can call and get the information. Of course, it probably will be difficult to get through on the phone - but clear off a spot and pitch a hellacious fit.

6. That should at least be reported
Move ON (http://www.moveonpac.com/) says to call this number:

1-866-MYVOTE1

Hope you call. If this election is close anywhere, instances of Republican dishonesty will become more important. I can't believe they're that incompetent in Kentucky. I think they're trying to deny you your vote.

Keep us informed, and good luck.

The world is counting on you.
Please, please don't get discouraged. The planet earth is counting on you and your neighbours, even in the Red states.

7. Did you check out the "www.mypollingplace.com" website?
Try it, and if it tells you the same place, call one of the voter fraud hotlines! :) Good luck! :) And be proud you are having a tough time -- very few worthwhile things in life are easy!!! :)

8. Two phone calls
First, to your county election official:
http://elect.ky.gov/countyclerks.htm

If that doesn't get you your voting location, call the state:
http://elect.ky.gov/contact_us.htm

And if you got the name of the poll worker, report him. If not, get it when you go back. Make sure this person never works a poll again.

11. Then wait in all 4 lines
Sorry to be blunt, but we need your vote. If it takes all day, if you have to take a sick day, if you get rained on, please just go vote.

The Republicans won't stand in those lines that long. As someone said, you don't stand on line for hours in the rain to keep the status quo.

I voted in Louisville this morning. I know that Kentucky will go red, but the closer we get it, the better chance we have to make it a blue state next time. Also, you'll be a part of the MANDATE.

Finally, I'm sure that you're like the rest of us. Bush has done at least 458 different things to deeply insult your sense of what this country is supposed to be about. So grab your novel, game boy, ipod, knitting material, and do this for 1100 dead soldiers, 100,000 dead Iraqis, for the women of this country and of the world, for the environment, and for hope.

Thanks for going through what I'm sure will be a royal pain in the ass. We need you.
