Ohio's Blackwell Strikes Again
Those still without requested absentee ballots cannot vote

About 20 people wait to vote or check registration yesterday at the Board of Elections. Christina Villareal, 26, left, was there because she didn't get a board response after changing her address.

By FRITZ WENZEL
BLADE POLITICAL WRITER

Ohioans who requested absentee ballots but who have not yet received them will not be able to vote, according to a decree issued yesterday by Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell.

He has told county boards of elections that those people may not vote a provisional ballot. And because they requested absentee ballots, they will not be allowed to vote at their regular polling place.

9. Just called the AFSCME hotline
The lawyers are already on their way, even as we type. They knew already, and are going to seek an injunction/restraining order in Federal District Court.

6. WTF?
What are the Bushies promising him for this? I can't possibly be worth the pariah he's becoming! Blackwell's name was floated earlier this year to replace the unpopular Bob Taft come the next Gubernatorial election, but after all this shit, I can't see it happening. So what on Earth is he angling for?

22. A win in the Primary...
He is hoping that all of this bullshit will endear him to the fundie base of the Ohio GOP electorate. If that happens, he will be the nominee as Montgomery and Petro will split with each other, the "moderate" GOP vote...

It's all his plan. Then he will run against, I hope, Jerry Springer and get his ass womped but good......

17. He should be investigated
He is responsible for getting the absentee ballots to those who requested them. If he failed, he is responsible for making sure that those who didn't get a ballot are not denied.

18. Just get a new absentee ballot?
Can't they do that? Just say they messed up their absentee ballot and they want a new one, then drop it off? Isn't that legal? We can do that here in Oregon with mail-in.

19. He is a disgusting POS.
There is a special place in hell (if it exists) for people like him. At least we know he will be surrounded by all of his criminal buddies who have caused mass destruction to this country and innocent people nationwide.

20. Doesn't surprise me a bit.
I just voted and one of the republicans who wasn't supposed to be there to challenge votes was... standing there challenging votes rampantly to the pint where the voting booths were barely being used because she held the lines up for hours.

Luckily someone called that beautiful safety number and some lawyers arrived before I got there, yet even then she made sure to look at the book I had to sign to vote.

(I came prepared with a camera, cell phone, pad and paper, thankfully one shot with the camera was more than enough to scare her well away from me.)
