this sort of thing should be caught when the compair the number of voters vrs. the number of people who votes. This should be a pretty easy catch.

You have to balance your voters with your tally, that SHOULD be caught.

25. But how is it dealt with when it IS caught?
Exactly how do they figure out who got the overvotes? Do they subtract equally from all candidates? Cause if they do, it would mean that Kerry would have REAL votes deducted, while Bush would have FAKE votes added.

40. THAT pinpoints the pxs with E-voting
with paper you simply HAVE to figure it out - its possible. With electronics its not possible as you only have control of what amounts to a total end count.

I don't, frankly, knows what happens, just that they can identify there is a problem. Someone who knows EV should be able to state the remedy, unless, of course, the idea is that EV is infallible, so there IS no remedy.

22. hope this makes Dems flood the polls to balance the planted votes in machi
in machines.

This COULD MAYBE work to our advantage, if it enrages enough dems that we get out and vote in huge numbers.

Re-voting also is obviously in order where any DIEBOLD trash is used. Possibly in two weeks from now, using paper ballots.

15. Rove planted the ballots...
They've already tried to plant fake fliers in a Dem HQ, but it backfired - someone who saw them, threw them out. The next day, someone shows up to "discover" the fliers and report them to Drudge, but they were in the trash. So he asked to see one, then went to the media, and Drudge put up a siren. Classic Rove. He's done several instances of planting fliers, making them look like his opponent did it.

19. Howard Stern should be embarrassing to the media in general.
And I don't mean that against Howard. But it's sad enough when people have to turn to a "fake news" show on Comedy Central to get their information. But when they have to turn to a guy that openly admits that his formula used to be Lesbians = Ratings. . . there's something seriously lacking in our national media. Lacking in a way that words fail to capture.

28. This is a good time to point out that Stern was not always so loved...
by many on the left:

In one of those unintentional alliances that makes everyone involved just a little bit uneasy, Thomas (a longtime progressive social activist), Kuhn (founder of the feminist watchdog group Media Action Alliance), and Prichard (president of the Minnesota Family Council, a conservative "family values" group), each proclaimed victory when AMFM Inc. announced in early August that it would take "The Howard Stern Show " off the air.
http://www.womenspress.com/newspaper/1999/15-12%20articles/15-12steinerstern.html

Now think about that - we may not always agree with what Stern said and did in the past, but we sure as hell like what he's saying now.

There is a lesson in there somewhere...

24. Planted for KERRY not bush? re: saying RNC filing challenge, suggests that
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 10:49 AM by oscar111
so, perhaps Diebold planted votes for Kerry, to make us look bad, and made sure they were discovered early.

Just be ready for this wrinkle if it develops.

I'm just trying to see why on earth the RNC would go to court on this one.

Reminds me of Hitler starting the Reichstag fire, and blaming local LW types.

Is Stern sure the votes were for Bush? If so, why is the RNC filing suit?

27. Let's hope - but that makes no sense...
2,000 Bush votes weren't going to swing Philly to Bush, and RNC wouldn't be the ones rushing to court if they were guilty.

IMHO Reps are running a different game - trying to use planted votes as excuse to throw out LOTS of Philly votes for Kerry and thus throw state to Bush

33. No, they didn't
ACtually what Fox just reported (I was listening very closely) was that there were NO votes planted. Someone observed the total number of votes cast on a machine over its lifetime and mistakenly assumed those were votes cast before the polls opened. Apparently, they were not -- at least on that machine.

35. What types of machines?
Touchscreen?

How did they discover this, printing a totals tape (which should be zero) before voting?

If these machines are touchscreen, are they connected to the Internet in any way?

Regardless of who the votes were for, this is wrong. The question is, was the discovery made pre-voting, during the zero totals check?

Please report to any of a number of organizations:

So far this is the only SANE explanation of what happened. So far no hard core proof.
